Great price, Wonder if it's a new model though, I know Lacie do the silver ones, the new Gold one and a new black one, but they don't have the logo on them.
Nice though.
I have 5 of the Silver Porsche ones as back ups, Excellent Drives, Tiny and Quiet.

I have 2 of these. First from ebuyer for approx £55 and second from play.com £63 (plus quidco to come). Both have the samsung spinpoint 16mb cache disc inside. Small, quiet, nice black case.
Only annoying thing is no on/off switch.
Voted hot!

i just bought one of these freom play.com for 64.99 + quidco.

This is a very good price for a very good external drive.

how do they compare to the silver ones? and can these ones be mounted on top each other like the silvers? i have some silver ones, and i notice the silver ones cost more than these ones anyone know why?
#5
excellent just what I was after.

I (too) bought one of these from Play.com earlier this week (using their 10% voucher code).
It arrived yesterday (even though posted on Monday by the Parcel Force 24 service!), & as mentioned above, the black case contains a Samsung drive.

Don't eBuyer have a bad reputation for customer service? I seem to recall reading a huge thread on this at HotUKDeals earlier this year.

How did you give them rep? :?

WOULD THIS WORK ON A 360 ?? (not for live just for playing MP3 etc through??
#9
Do these power off when you shutdown the PC ?
#10
This is probably a stupid question but I want to make sure before spending 60 quid on one of these, I haven't had an external harddrive before. Are these drives suitable for holding my video files? I want to transfer all my divx/xvid/wmp etc. files onto it. There aren't going to be any playback issues if I'm playing them from this drive are there, I assume USB is fast enough to stream/play them in exactly the same way as they would play from an internal hard drive? And Windows Media Player won't have any problems recognising the files from these drives will it (I'll probably have it plugged in all the time anyway)?

decided not to buy as doesnt have a on/off switch
#12
You won't have any issues playing any sort of media back off one of these. It will just plug and play.

I need a backup for my Dell Inspiron 510m. Will this ext hard drive be compatible with it & easy to use? Or should I go in for the Seagate deal posted earlier? Can someone suggest pls. :?
#15
can anyone tell me if the one on this post is same as the older silver ones in terms of reliability etc. i have the silver 250gb and they have a little on/off switch at the back and it's been great/reliable so far. no on/off switch will be a bummer tho, but a lot of the other ext HD 500gb are like that too ... for some reason.

you might have some trouble streaming DIVX if you have USB 1 but as long as USB 2 is up and running should be no problem at all

Awwwww  Get your coat you've pulled...
I know you normally click on the "scales" icon, but that was my point there is no scales icon to the left of homer_213's original post - or at least I don't see one... :? Same with every other original post too.

Should do - as long as its FAT32 formatted first (though it wont be able to store any files over 4GB in size)

Its SATA, 16mb cache, but case is baffling and I have not been able to open mine!!

Good price for the Drive alone, but you may break the enclosure getting it open?? (or maybe i am just too chicken to force it open as required)
If anyone has experience of getting these open I would be interested!!

couldnt find any info via google.
#22
if we were able to remove the case without damage this would be a great deal.
could do with a couple for internal at this price!

just to share my view / knowledge in responce to a couple of posts.

1) in my experience of over 7 years of purchasing from ebuyer their customer service is 2nd to none. There was a point about 3/4 years ago when they went over to an enote system instead of being able to phone them, which was terrible... but now you have the option of enote or telephoning customer services. They've always replaced/refunded straight away in my experience.

2) the drive does have an on off switch. It's on the back and on the silver models I have is a small round push button - I've heard a bit of negative feedback about the button... but, again, I've never found it a problem... I guess it would be easier to reach on the front.... but then you are choosing this drive partially for it's great sleek design... so I guess you can't have it both way! :-D
#27
£65.49 now, let me know when it comes down again :)
#28
I just wanted to point out that the on-off switch is a bit unimportant. If you leave it plugged in but turn off the drive, you still have the power adapter plugged in and switched on the whole time. It does not use a lot of electricity, but it does use some and it is shortening the life of that component. I have just had to replace a set-top box because the power adapter stopped working, so it's worth bearing this in mind.
If you want to turn this off, do the following:
1. 'Safely Remove Hardware'
2. Unplug the adapter or switch off the electricity socket
#29
do you think this will come back down to £60 ?

pre-xmas mad rush price hike?
