That must have been one hell of a design brief!

Lacie: Hi, Porsche, you make cool cars and a nifty kettle/toaster combo. We want to draw on those skills to design something for us.

Porsche: Excellent, that should draw on our core skills. What sort of gadget did you have in mind?

Lacie: Oh, it's very cool, it's like a box.

Porsche: A box?

Lacie: Yeah.

Porsche: So what does it do?

Lacie: It stores stuff.

Porsche: Anything else?

Lacie: Not really. It just has to be inoffensive, you know. Quiet. Not do anything.

Porsche: Lights?

Lacie: Maybe one, an LED, perhaps.

Porsche: I think we can do that. Here you go.

[passes Lacie a sheet of paper with a square on it]

Lacie: What's this?

Porsche: It's a box.

Lacie: Okaaaaay. What does it do?

Porsche: Stores stuff. It's silver and it has a light on it, see, that dot. [Points]

Lacie: That's great, just what we wanted.

Porsche: That'll be six hundred thousand pounds please.
Nice one rossjamesparker

Designed by FA Porsche, eh. Wonder what the 'FA' stands for?:giggle:
Lol, you've got that right!
I have an old one one. it's just a plain and simple square plastic box that is painted to look like aluminum. Incidentally mine is an old 40 GB and I see they are still using the same design!
Wonder what the 'FA' stands for?:giggle:

Ferdinand Alexander (Porsche). I think he's thought of as one of their first great designers. I'm pretty sure he was responsible for the 911's design.

Apologies if I've missed a very obvious joke...
Not a LaCie fan myself either.

but this is a deal! for 500GB as well as a slim, plain 'elgant' design. wonder is there any codes for CCL.
Maybe they asked Porsche to design the box because they designed the BOXster !
Wow, That guy needs sacking if he actually spent time designing that!!!

Even the Maxtor looked nicer!

Its a good price however so will vote hot accordingly!
"FA" as in "Sweet FA" - statement to indicate how much Porsche have to do with data storage... Marketing thought it would be less offensive to leave off the "to do with" bit on the case - keep engraving costs down and all that - prob a Carbon output initiative in there somewhere...
This HDD is £81.74 at eBuyer, but use Google Checkout to get a tenner off.

I think the super saver postage is free, so £71.74 Delivered.

:pirate: CJ :pirate:

how does the google checkout money off work? is that with selected retailers only? and is it only applicable to first order only?
