A reviewer (user) said the hdd inside his/hers was a Samsung, but I guess that's not guaranteed to be the case.

You cannot use Quidco and discounts on the same transaction :(

How did you find out ? I can't see anything to that effect on Quidco.

Because if you follow the Quido link into the site, then try and add the voucher code, it wont let you.

Its the same deal with LoveFilm.

Fair enough. If I hadn't got a drawer full of mobile drives I would have gone for this and found out myself. I'll remove the reference to Quidco from the listing.

Good price. I got this for a similar price a while back just to break open and put the drive in my notebook. I also got the Samsung. It's a bit of a job to open the case without destroying it if you want to reuse it. Downside is that the usb cord is short and fixed. No port to attach another cable. Once the cord goes, the case is useless.

Heat regardless.

Just ordered.
If you get "you cannot use code because you were directed from a cashback site" just delete browsing history and try it again.
Mine was £65.62 actually..every penny counts!!

Is the cable really only 9" long ?
#15
Can get the 250GB for £42.55 with the same code. Might get that myself as need a small drive but require nowhere near 500GB.

i got one of these for about £80 a few months ago when it was posted on here and it's been great.

the cable on mine isn't even 9" though - only around 4" at a guess.

I think that ruler is showing cm, so nope, it's 9cm long! You could always buy a USB extension cable for £1 - 2.
#21
The drive inside is a Samsung HM500LI, spec sheet here
I found an old thread here which shows how to remove it from the enclosure. Although seeing as you can get a WD 500GB for £65 i'm not sure why you would want to do this!

I should have mentioned that extender - might have generated more heat ....

Is it that the 'Syncing' only works under Windows - As it states on the site it's Mac compatible?

System Requirements : PC or Mac with USB 2.0 interface; Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows VistaTM / Mac OS X 10.3 or higher; 32MB RAM minimum; Internet connection for software & documentation updates

I just spoke to them on live chat and was told they are out of stock until the 10th July and they would ship then. I was offered a refund, but to be fair I'm a bit annoyed that they have taken my money already, especially since the item showed in stock when I bought it. That and the fact they didn't bother to tell me it was out of stock until I asked.

Oh well, will wait I guess, was still a good price.

Damn. Refund please and that's the last time I shop there!

Well god knows what's going on now, I pointed out it was STILL showing as in stock (as it has been for 4 days now) and they said "that just means it's in stock with the suppliers"!? They then told me actually they would be getting them in stock Monday or Tuesday (not July the 10th as I was told yesterday).

My mate also ordered one and has just been onto them and was told they are coming into stock today or tomorrow! They're just making it up as they go along, wouldn't touch them with a bargepole after this.

Haha, what a load of nonsense! Shame really, as this was the only decently priced item on their site :-D
To be fair I rang and they refunded my Paypal tx immediately but as you say, not even a bargepole
