Anyway, thanks for posting it

Link wasn't working as it was linked to the now defunct "savastore". Now fixed :)

Will this thing run off just USB? On the picture it has a power socket.

Yes it will but there are a few older Pc's that will not have the power to run it and will need the socket.

My main pc cannot put out enough juice to power these but my newer laptop is fine ..

Ordered mine last night on 5 day free delivery and just got notification that it has been shipped already.

Good point. I guess the AC adapter is optional?

It does say it is host powered, though.

From Lacie's website here

Bus Powered : yes (no cumbersome AC adapter needed)**

** For computers equipped with a low powered USB port, the bundled USB power-sharing cable helps turn the drive on by drawing extra power from a second USB port. An optional AC power adapter is available for non-powered USB hubs or boards, or for the rare computers that limit bus power

There seems to be some confusion about the 2nd USB power function with these drives. Very useful for older PCs or badly made laptops and not a disadvantage. However I much prefer the Freecom design if the power issue is not significant - about the same price and Freecom support also superior

I use 2 maxtor 60gb drives, both with second usb power leads and only ever use the one USB connection.
