By no means best value ever (as if Lacie has ever sold anything well priced), but it looks very solid and fits neatly on a key ring.

Until today I thought that my Sandisk Ti Cruzers where the nicest USB drives available... I stand corrected.

Available for pre-order (stock from Monday!?) as 4GB and 8GB, in two designs.

Specifications:
- sturdy metal design
- up to 30MB/sec read
- up to 10MB/sec write
- 2 year warranty
- Windows XP/Vista, Mac OS and Linux compatible

they look very smart, i voted hot simply because its a smart unique product that i might else not have seen, as for the price, when you need something specific and cant find it anywhere, and want it badly then price is not the most important thing. unless it can be found cheaper of course! lol

people are too quick to vote cold because they personally not interested in the item or feel they would pay that price BUT can you find it cheaper? constant cold voters for no reason just makes people not want to post and great deals get missed...just my thoughts.

I agree, look very good heat & rep added:thumbsup:

I am puzzled as to why this is so cold. Please, if you can find it cheaper, which I presume you can, due to the volume of cold votes, post a link to the better deal. That would be much more helpful than just voting cold. Thanks. Andy

I like!...

I think the best deal to be had would be to go for a "LaCie PassKey USB Micro SD Key Reader" as you can pick up a 8gb mico sd off the like of ebay for around £7-10 if you spot a listing with little intrest... (i have got a few in the past for my mobile and micro sd adapter)

Voted hot - good looking gadgets - not cheap compared to generic USB drives, but a good HUKD deal nonetheless. There seem to be a lot of folk who vote cold straightaway on any deal that's not to their liking - people like that must put people off posting good deals, especially newcomers. Shame.
#9
Let's face it, these Lacie USB drives are incredibly bad value for money - it's the fact that they look different that makes them interesting.
#10
They look great, which is my main complaint about the endless Kingston/Integral/Sandisk postings. Hot for style, not for price:)
#11
thanks for sharing
#12
The most impressive "update" to the image of these devices in years. Hot for style, altho £26 for 8GB dampens the deal somewhat.
#13
Im glad this went hot after the initial cold votes, great find

I haven't voted either way, but if you just want small high capacity USB storage these are much cheaper.

10mb/s write isnt particularly fast, this drive is quite expensive compared to other brands. You're basically paying a premium for the 'unique' design, it just depends whether you like the design enough to pay more.
#16
Nice design but again that price is hard to ignore when higher capacities can be had for less.

The card reader and a cheap card elsewhere would probably work out best :-)
#17
4£ per Gb when the norm is 1£ and not exactly fast.
Yes the design is sleek and this is a cool USB drive, but how is a product with so little value for money, and going at the RRP price, a hot deal? Even Steve Jobs would agree that a 400% premium for design is a little extreme.
#18
They do look great, is there any dirt cheap SD readers about and not be hammered with postage.

The one that came with the R4 failed and haven't been able to use the DS for months.

Poundland is currently selling a USB SDcard reader for £1.00

On eBay you can get a cheap "generic" MicroSD/Sony M2 reader for £1.59 delivered or a Sandisk branded one for £3.95.

Good for a present I guess, you are paying for the design, but I do like them.
#23
I dont really get how this is a "deal", you can get it for £15.90 from the LaCie official website. If Play were doing it cheaper, or if was something special then yea, but I dont get whats hot about something that is dearer on Play than what it is from the LaCie website

wow, when i first posted, this was like -30 or something!

glad to see cold voters have eased off there trigger fingers, i personally have not posted some deals purely because of the cold votes, seems too much trouble to post when it gets voted seriously cold without people saying why or posting a better deal.

i know there are people who are only interested in those deals for under a fiver but i cant stand some of those poundshop, lidl, aldi deals because the chance of getting them is slim and ends up being a huge waste of time and money for travel/petrol! im talking from experience ....

I've had a couple of these.

+ Nice and small
+ good value for money

- the plastic key ring part breaks off, so there is a risk of loss

I like the all in one design of the Lacie model. Will wait for them to appear on amazon or play though to avoid P&P

I think it's more a misunderstanding than a myth. Static electricity comes in charges tens of thousands of volts, and that'll rip the hell out of a voltage-sensitive electrical circuit, but only if it goes through it. Electricity is lazy, and it'll always take the easiest and the quickest route to conduct itself away. Aluminium conducts electricity fairly easily, while silicon is only a semi-conductor that only conducts when it has enough of a voltage pushing it. To make an analogy of it, it's sort-of like walking around a small lake to get to the other side, rather than trudging through it up to your balls.

So it should be safe.

People have said why. This is hideously overpriced for the capacity. You can get three proper branded 4Gb drives for the same price of one of these ones. Just because something is shiny shiny doesn't make it a good deal (unless you are an Apple fanboy.) Plus it is actually cheaper to buy it on the manufacturer's website than at Play - it's not even on sale. Voted mega-cold.
#38
Also, they're all out of stock. Voted expired.

Says £15.99 (same price) but theres also 99p postage to pay at memorybits making it £16.98.
Unless theres a discount code?
Either way its a 'design classic' in my book, even if it is a bit dearer than a regular memory stick.
Have some rep 'n' heat!
