What's available online will be dependant on what your registered local store has in stock. You may need to try larger stores for this offer.
(See same issue on thread from 6 weeks ago linded to in post#2)

mysupermarket.co.uk shows this product at the stated price.
the £15.96 bag is twice the size @ 10kg :)

Check out the link in post#2 ;-)
Several posts suggesting this is good quality rice and the rice of choice in the Asian community
#8
I can say this is excellent quality rice!
#9
these are the best basmati rice. Pakistan is leading provider of basmati rice.
#10
This rice is rubbish. Seriosly dont get it. We bought this same thing from a local store when they had it on a special. Made it once and threw it out! the rest of the sack is still sitting our kitchen and we dont know what to do with it! Stick to tilda!!!
#11
Abz your probably just saying stick to Tilda coz your Indian and not Pakistani. I stay stick to Pakistani origin.
#12
This is the best quality rice you can get at this price. I have been using LAILA make from the last 3 - 4 years, their rice as well as Flour.

I used to buy 5kg of this rice from ASDA for £9.50 on offer last year. Tesco & ASDA did a promotion on this last month due to Ramadan for £5 and I bought 6 bags.

Rice has been coming more from Pakistan than India recently due to rice shortage in India and inflation.

Pakistan rice uses the river water for vegetation hence high quality. It's the same as with MANGOES coming all over in UK from Pakistan from the last 15 years or so due to it's taste and quality.

And that's true that there is no difference between Indian or Pakistani food as both countries use the same land, culture etc etc before and after separation since 1947

ALSO, Neiliboy - You shouldn't make comments like that

MOD should give you some sort of strike or warning
#15
Abz come for some cooking classes and bring the rice with you so I show you how to cook it properly!!!

Need to taste the one we have at home...laila basmati is class i can only say white pearl basmati is better....its not just about the rice but who cooks it!!

30+ years of cooking experience in my kitchen tells me Laila Basmati is very good!!

As for India - Pakistan - not many years back were same country so lets end that issue as this is not a political forum
#17
excellent quality rice

even better than Laila (over priced)
#18
Honestly, this rice was not as good as Tilda when I bought it once. The quality of Basmati rice depends on the maturity of the rice. The more it is OLD, it is better. Therefore I am not telling this lot is bad. However I can only tell TILDA never faled.
#19
greatwhite

A warning, what for ?

How ridiculous:roll:
#20
It was tongue in cheek, hence the wink. I knew u lot would take it too seriously ;-)
#21
Just to add, I am neither indian or pakistani, but me and my family think this is probably the best basmati rice out there and we have tried most of the brands. Tilda is also nice, but we just prefer the flavour and texture of Laila more
#22
yes I totally agree with isotonic....it also depends how you cook but yeah WHITE PEARL BASMATI rice is a premium rice hence the price is also very high...

White Pearl beats every rice in the market and that's why it's most expensive than LAILA, BADSHAH, TILDA, VEETEE etc etc and again it's also a PAKISTANI rice but some people might not like this...but who cares
#23
This rice is absolutely awful, overpriced and overhyped so don't buy.
Leave it for me..LOL!
#24
normally this rice retails around £17 for 10 Kg bag and around £9 for 5 Kg bag in asian stores.
In some Sunday markets, you can find it around £15 for a 10 Kg bag and around £7 for a 5 Kg bag

So this absolutely is a bargain irrespective of quality
#25
This is a seriously good price for Basmati rice - 10p for 100g equivalent.

Must admit absolutely love Tilda Basmati and would find that hard to beat.

I think the "taste" thing is an individual thing. I mean look at Tea - some people love one brand over another. I don't like Tetley tea but I know people who drink gallons of the stuff. I am addicted to an "own brand" cheaper tea that other people pass by!

It's what makes people individuals :)
#26
Tend to agree with bemad on the price factor. I buy Laila just for the price advantage
when it is on offer but Tilda basmati is in a different league and alas you need deep pockets
for it. Probably like fine wine - some people can probably tell the difference.
#27
I have not tried Laila rice before, but certainly will give it a go, cheers!

As for Pakatani rice I have found them easy to cook and tasty.

Am waiting for Tilda to drop their price to try them.
#28
my mum cooked laila the other day and she said they were very good. maybe not as good as white pearl, but good for the price.

Of all the negative press Pakistan receives there are a few things that are world class that come out of it, namely rice, mangoes, cotton and sporting goods (cricket bats, footballs, squash racquets). It's a shame that tourism is not promoted either. It has so much to offer. On the same par as india/nepal/china/thailand. A slight change in topic but something worth bringing to ppl's attention.

True that pakistan produces some excellent products but probably not for long as the UNITED STATES OF AGGRESSION is trying it's best to destroy the country claiming to be fighting Al-CIAda. Strange that theyv'e not mentioned Osama for a few years - I guess he served his purpose.

Tourism is promoted but probably not the Club 18-30's variety. The only problem with tourism is the filth that goes with it, namely, alcohol, drugs, prostitution, so best not to promote tourism.

Hot Deal! Will bag one tomorrow from Tesco :-D

popped into tesco earlier, was nowhere to be seen. oh well.

ARE YOU SERIOUS????? - Really don't promote tourism - with the wealth of history and diversity that Pakistan has to offer.

All the negative aspects that you mention are already in the country, there's even a brewery in Murray and red-light districts in most major cities. Don't hold an idealised view of the country, that its some sort of unadulterated, uncontaminated society. Its like most other third world countries, and I certainly understood there was no shortage of alcohol, drugs or prostitution.
rant over :whistling:

Oh yeah nice deal on the rice --- heat & rep added
#34
awesome tasting rice - a must buy i reckon.
#35
I telephoned a couple of Tesco stores and one (Tesco Greenford, Hoover Building) said they had many in stock. Travelled to the store and found that they had no stock of this product. Apparently, they had 'ghost stock'. It was never on the shelves. Complained to the manager who simply shrugged his shoulders and did not want to know. In my opinion, Tesco stands for poor customer services and unreliable information given to customers about stock levels. I will never trust Tescos. Their ability in supplying correct stock information is highly questionable.

I would advise anyone to phone them to check and then ask them to check that it is actually sitting on the shelf before going !!!!

Calm down dearie , its only a bag of rice .You will be claiming it is anti-Islamic to buy Tilda in a minute :) There has never been any aggression from Pakistan before :whistling:
Heat added OP ,great post .
#37
Ive used a few different brand of rice including tilda, rozana, badshah etc. tilda is good, but way over priced.
This is very good quality rice, and I have been using it for over a year now. very satisfied with it.
Great deal at this price. thanks for posting.

NAZ17,
Now that does sound pretty certain to me. I am convinced.
Must have widely experienced (or even supplied?) one (or more?) of these fields mentioned (alcohol, drugs or prostitution)..... question is which one ??? and where else (apart from Pakistan obviously)???

:whistling:

BTW I dont see where "zaheer2003" claimed none of these were present in Pakistan, he did however mention what may come with 18-30 club !

So Calm Down Dear, its only a bag of rice :-D
