George Romero's fourth zombie film, Land of the Dead, can be had for £1.49 in Argos in-store. It's down as £2.99 on the box but has a 50% off marked price sticker on it. It appears the £1.49 is not a store-specific price as £1.49 the price it came up straight away on scanning. There's at least one copy left at Bolton Middlebrook, and also some copies at Wigan and Preston - other stores will depend on stock. The catalogue number is 296/2153

6.4/10 on imdb, so can't be too bad, and at that price, a bargain.

Also available in Poundland.

Btw, the film is a complete let down.

How its got about 6 on imdb is beyond me, Romero hasn't made a decent Zombie film since Day the first time around. Went to the pics to watch this as well - wouldn't pay 10p for it knowing what I know now! Just hope its remade to the level Zack did with Dawn - at least the remake of it couldn't be worse than the original!

I think this is a great price. Although I'm tempted to disagree with the people above and probably like them I love the earlier Deads, I havent watched this film since the first time I watched it whereas Ive watched the earlier ones countless times so I have to agree. Its good for £1.49 though if you havent seen it or if you liked it. This was the first Romero ... Dead film that started ruining the franchise, the ones after this are pure garbage. I can't stick up for Romero anymore lol, I tried for a number of years believe me after this to defend him but the series has taken a very sharp downturn.

tbf, the Romero 'Dead" movies were never great movies to start with.

they're great B movies, and Dawn especially is probably the only one that comes close to transcending the schlock horror genre, because under the zombie carnage it's quite an intelligent film.

Now don't get me wrong, i absolutey love Night, Dawn and to a lesser extent Day, but the way some people go on about them you'd think they were some of the best films ever made, but they aren't.

the problem with Land is that he was given a "big" (by his standards anyway) budget, and he tried to reach too far and take the series mainstream, which it's never going to be. It's still watchable enough, but it's not a patch on Night or Dawn - but i will agree with everyone else on the point that it's far better than what he's produced since (Survival being especially godawful)

in the end, it's £1.49 and if you want to spend an evening watching a zombie film, you could do a lot worse.

Voted Hot, not as enjoyable to watch as Dawn of the Dead but still good zombie fun!

I think the thing with the original films is a lot of us were kids when they came out and boy were they a sure way to have nightmares - its why to this day i love zombie films - they are the ones that creep me out in a kinda film version of spiders - no reason I should be scared but I am :)

Just a shame I haven't seen a decent zombie film since the remake of Dawn, want to check out The Horde at some point as that seems about the best of a bad bunch at present.

Never thought about why I love the earlier films so much before but you nailed it. I was a kid the first time I saw Dawn and it truly frightened me to imagine waking up to a world of the undead. Maybe if i'd watched it first time as an adult I would've not been so bothered by it.

I liked Survival of the Dead - not as much as Day of the Dead, but I'd say it was as good as Land of the Dead and far better than Diary of the Dead.

It's pointless talking about the later films in the same breath as the early ones, such is the chasm in quality but this is the best of the modern ones.
For context, 'best' equates to 'marginally better than brain tumour'.

Mmmmm Simon Baker :p well woth £1.49! ;)

I agree Survival and Land are about on par (Land is a little bit better imo) and Diary is pretty poor.

I have all six of Romero's dead series on Blu, plan on watching all 6 again back to back on Halloween, although I might just stop after 1-3 ;)

lol, nicely put :)

Indeed none of the newer ones even warrant another watch imo, the remake of Day being possibly the worst film I have seen in the last decade or at least its in the top 2 alongside New Moon!!

Looking forward to getting hold of The Walking Dead tv show which airs later this month I think in the States.... now that might give me some nightmares with a bit of luck!

If you want a good zombie book - check out World War Z - pretty decent, or there are a couple by Brian Keene that are not bad to be honest - go off the zombie myth a touch but still in that same ballpark.
