Bought one of these last year to go in my old Acer machine and it works a treat.

The flush fitting is great although once you put it in, getting it out again will likely be a little tricky.

A cheap and easy way to add USB 3 support that does the job quickly and easily.

There will be drivers on the accompanying CD but I would hop over here Linky to get updated ones.

Ordered - thanks. These are about 10p cheaper on ebay so seems like a good deal. Now I can buy that usb3 external drive I was after...

Brilliant thanks, keep running out of USB ports on my laptop and have an expresscard that's rarely used. If nothing else, will keep dust out of the slot.

    thanks

Are these the same as PCMCIA cards or different technology?

This won't fit a PCMCIA slot.

Only thing to watch with this card (PCMCIA was the same), without a booster cable (supplied) that plugs from the middle of the card into a USB port elsewhere on the machine, this can't seem to supply enough power for a high drain device (like a mobile hard disk) on its own.

When I tried on mine, the card would shut down and I would have to reboot to get it to reactivate. They do work great for USB flash drives without the cable though.

Just received mine - works fine with a USB3 flash drive and portable hard drive (without any extra power connector). The supplied CD is useless so use this link for the drivers - I used the 3.0.20 drivers. Only downside is that inserting or removing the USB plug causes the card to be ejected - this is with a Dell XPS M1330.

Mine arrived this morning, it is a pain to get out, but found I could catch a small screwdriver on the side of one of the ports and get sufficient grip to remove it.

Haven't had a chance to test performance, but at least it works fine.

Hi - I also have a M1330; did you get both of the usb slots working? I can only get the one ... With the one that did work I found you didn't have to push the usb drive all the way in for the expresscard to find it, thus allowing for extraction without taking the card with it..

Yes both slots work on my M1330.

ExpressCard has a maximum throughput of 2.5 Gbit/s so half USB3 speeds but still 5 times faster than USB2!

And limited by the USB3 device itself which is typically a much slower hard drive or flash drive.
