are these any good, want to get a laptop for my mum
#2
Should be good for general use. I needed one too (for general web surfing and office work), but ordered the HP one for 400 instead. I ordered it today so may cancel tomorrow and see if I can pick this up.

Anyone have a pic of these?

Not any good for gaming, but fine for office/surfing/email. I'm not sure if it's two 512MB sticks or one 1GB stick, but either way it'll only be £15-30 to upgrade to 2GB of RAM. It'll be pretty quick then, especially as it doesn't have to cope with aero. TBH 1GB will probably be fine for most things.

Lots of pics and more spec on this thread: http://www.sdarc.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=512&PID=1589 where a guy is trying to flog one. The thread reveals Aldi were selling them for £350 a few months ago.

eh ?
there is only one type of Core duo processor

mega cheap, is this in all the stores in the uk ?
#6
There is both Core Duo and Core 2 Duo - the former is the first generation version 'Yonah' which is slightly slower per clock and does not support 64 bit compared to the Core 2 Duo 'Merome' processors.

They have the next model up, with 2GB Ram and 160GB HDD for £399. What spec was the £599 one? I'd imagine it would be the Core2Duo with all the bells and whistles at that price.

I think this takes that into account, or is excluded. A mate who works at Sainsburys told me about it. He gets a 15% discount as staff, and he's still umming and arring over getting one! :w00t:

Looks like the one they had in my local Sainsburys a couple of weeks ago, for £399, £200 off.
#13
I have just called my local sainsburys they say the cheapest laptop they do is £399. To be Honest £200 seems way too cheap for the spec.
#14
Just phoned my local store, there are two laptops; one for £399 and one for £599 so the savings havn't came off. Can you tell me if it is in all stores and when you found out this information because the advertisment labels may not be updated yet.

I have just popped to the my local store and they had the laptop for £399. Same spec as listed. I got them to scan it and it was definately £399.

Medion laptop 15.4in laptop, Intel Dual Core, 160Gb h/drive, 2Gb RAM, Vista Premium (http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/shoppingandservices/gifting/electricals/laptops/01.htm)

It not a fantasy chaps, because I bought one.

Very decent specification, graphics aside

Intel Core Duo T2300
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic
15.4 WXVGA screen
1 GB DDRII Ram
120GB HD
Via Chrome9 graphics (on board)
Wireless B/G built in
DVD-RW
HD Audio with loudspeakers.

The receipt lists it as a "*MEDION MIM2210 LAPT"

Picked mine up at Sainsburys Didcot (Oxfordshire). Got the last one there, although I'd seen another earlier in the day.

It was an official Sainsburys orange price label, showing a previous price of £399, now £200.

Sounds like that was due to an Auto RTC. This usually applies to discontinued stock and is an automatic reduction to clear the stock and happens on an individual basis, not through the company estate.

Any guesses who I work for?

Consider yourself very lucky - right place right time.

Interesting to see if anyone else managed to grab one.

so does this happen when there is more than one or the last one in stock?

My friend works at the Oldbury branch, and when he phoned me last night there were definitely three laptops for sale.

It all depends on stock levels and how well the product has been selling. I can't give specifics, but it is not unknown for a price to go back up if the product starts selling in larger amounts.

Hope this helps...

Yes they still have the odd stock and yes I bought one at that price, the spec at that price is still cheap, 120gb hdd and 1gig ram, on top of that even if the processor is 32bit 1.67, try picking a similar desktop around that price and you will not. That said laptops are going to crash in price big time. Like mobile phones everyone is churning them out, and with China to thank and their sweat shops/labor camps.
