512MB Memory Module
DDR2 SODIMM for Laptops
667Mhz Bus Clock Rate
200 pin Configuration
Non-ECC

This is 'Component shop' brand. PNY is available at the same size / speed for £1.97 and Kingston at £4.97.

From feedback it appears there is very little stock for [email protected], so really only a deal if ordering along with something else for home delivery ;-)

Cheapest (533mhz) 512mb sodimm at Play is £5.99.

I struggled with that recently, ended up at Ebay with 1Gb DDR Sodimm for £23 delivered. Ridiculous really given the price of DDR2.

Will this fit notebooks aswell as laptops?

Aren't they one and the same or do you mean a netbook?

HI releaseyourself

Not sure if it is you who mentioned that you are looking for 1GB DDR 333 memory, I just brought some from play.com for my HP laptop as its 200 pin.

http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/3317272/PNY-PC2700-1GB-333MHz-DDR-200pin-SODIMM-Laptop-Memory/Product.html

Not sure if this is what you are looking for or might help. Its was the cheapest I seen - I checked ebuyer and all that but this place was the best priced.

Hope it helps. cheers GF

Weird actually as the above when you search for it, the search page says. KINGSTON
1GB PC-3200
DDR Laptop Memory

but when you click it, 2700 comes up yet the descprition is for 3200
#20
out of stock, anyone actually found a store with it in stock
#21
is it just me or is anything less than a gig of sodimm a burden nowadays

its a good price, but its too small to really use tbh

any laptop using ddr2 usually is a good spec'd one which will most likely used with vista / xp

and a lets say a pair of 512mb sticks ... it doesnt cut it

Hi Tom

You're saying the laptop recognises 2GB, rather than 1GB? I ran the Crucial tool on my HP laptop, and it says PC2700 333MHz 200pin 1GB, which are £23. I wouldn't mind paying £12 for 1GB, but £12 for 2GB would be fantastic.

So are you saying the PC5300 / 2GB / 667MHz should work too? Doesn't matter that it's DDR2? Like this one http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/5748603/PNY-PC5300-2GB-667MHz-DDR2-200pin-SoDIMM-Laptop-Memory/Product.html

Thanks

EDIT: a quick google search reveals DDR and DDR2 are NOT compatible

Reason being that MS made a OS that requires and can use more memory than ever before, so whereas XP really doesn't need more than 1Gb, Vista can do with 1Gb as a minimum and more preferablly

Yeah and thats why MS are bringing out Windows 07 latter this year as Vista is a memory hog

Hi Guys

back again (went out shopping with the other half), I have been reading the posts and I have to agree with some of you - I cant afford to try the DDR2 - basically the word is that the DDR2 in the DDr will either overload of melt the board. Not to keen to try it just incase as all my work is on it. But if its worked for some guys that great.

Need to stick to the DDR 333 version for the moment. Other 'research' well searches on the PC say that the DDR better mem than the newer DDR2 - I cant comment oon that fact as not seen it working or tried it.

Any comments?

Anyway the next day or so my PC2700 333MHz 200pin 1GB, from play will trun up and the machine will become 2gb instead of the 1.256 which I ahve at the moment. bascially need that as it might help with the 37" HD ready screen I have attached to it.

The HDMI DVI cable in on its way from Play too!

Anything else I can do to get the best out of that setup (running a vga cable at the moment)?

cheers GF

Dunno where you heard those bolded comments. Of more concern is that DDR and DDR2 have the positioning notch in a slightly different position on the module. You will not be able to slot a DDR2 RAM module in a DDR slot and vice-versa.

Just to confirm you CAN'T!! use DDR2 ram on a DDR laptop! Don't try it.

Sucks as DDR2 is so much cheaper.

I dunno what to get for my GF, she has 512mb at the moment and her laptop (xp) runs so frigging slow (loading programs, opening i.e) and its totally down to the ram as she has a 3ghz CPU.
I can get 2* 512mb for about £15 or 2* 1gb for £45. Doubt the difference between 1gb and 2gb on xp would be that noticeable ?

Hi Guys

back again!

not sure who to agree with but I am sure the DDR2 wont go into a DDR machine - I think Bibib mentions it as well as do some others - I see if I can find some word on it.

As for the DDR vs DDRs debate, I shall see if I can find the link - i am sure there was a piece on it

Shame that DDR2 mem is much cheaper than the DDR - but I am not going to stick DDR2 into the machine. Just phoned a friend (owns a network company) said NO before i even the finished the sentence.

Guess I am sticking to the DDR - hope it help anyone.

cheers guys

Why would anyone think DDR2 will fit in a DDR1 slot anyway? There totally different speeds so theyd have to clock down to work on slower machines.

DDR2 one pin is slightly moved across, so it does not fit obviously.

DDR is so expensive because people with older machines still want it, but theres no supply so the retail companies can have large prices since people still buy it, but stock is much less.

I recently gave away a 512mb SODIMM DDR2 samsung (not a great mem make but not bad) on ebay for 99pence. There is not much of a market for selling DDR2 laptop memory on ebay at all in case anyone is wondering. (also it took me two listings to sell it)

Its very unpopular on ebay. (laptop mem, probably because its so cheap new and people need to buy bigger sets)

DDR3 is again different and doesnt fit a DDR2 slot in case anyones wondering about that.

DDR3 is currently extremely expensive.
