I went into my local branch of Woolworths yesterday (Worcester) and found they had hundreds of eggs only for a pound- these included large sized Creme Egg, Guilyan, Crunchy, Dairy Caramel and loooooads more. I don't have a lot of money at the mo, but I know that stocking up on these now will save me a fortune!

Enjoy x

Y r people dissing this - is it not in all stores?
I'm planning to go first thing in the morning - stock up - Many thanks

Why've I got a little voice in my head warning me to check the best before dates?
Can't think of any reason why a big store would stock up on large amounts of eggs to sell for easter and then sell them so cheaply with months still to go...unless maybe they've got to sell them quickly and cheaply because they're not going to last til easter?
Just a thought...

(Obviously if they ARE within date (and will last til easter) then an absolute bargain but just seems too good a deal to be true...shall have to check my local woollies tomorrow)

Capitalism is a wonderful thing. Easter Eggs in January
#5
i've just been down to my local woolworths and bought some ready for easter. they are good til july 08.
#6
Why is it that just as soon as Christmas is over the stores bombard us with Easter? Sooner or later the whole thing is going to morph into one festival. I never buy any child Easter eggs (waste of money) but give them chocolate bars or money instead.
#7
Hmmm well just checked one of the Creme Egg ones I bought and is good till July/08 which is good enough for me!

I'd imagine trying to flog them is something to do with the lower spending over Xmas, hence all the mega sales etc. Maybe stores are starting to think we won't be spending as much this year so flogging alot of them now and cashing in? Just a guess x

The reason Eggs are hitting stores now is a combination of factors. Stores now have large volumes of space and have very little to fill them with. The distribution centres are taking eggs from suppliers as the suppliers have no room to store such large volumes of stock and need to move volumes on so they can keep production going. Distribution centers have the same problem they need to move the stock on so other stock can be distributed, stores have no room to hold it in warehouses so stock goes on the shop floor. This also aids distribution centres who may not be sending out full lorries this time of year, so they can fill the rest of the lorry with eggs. Save on distribution long term.

Why are woolworths selling so cheap ?? only they can answer that!!!

Yeah my lady spotted this the other day too & all had their best before dates after easter 2008, so I'll probably get at least 1 for her!
This is a good deal if you've got a lot to buy too.
Not much of a choc man myself, plus I think its all a load of commercialised rubbish.

This is mental though isnt it? I went into my local Woolies on Boxing Day & they had Creme Eggs on all the bottom shelves in the entertainment section, & now have easter eggs on 'sale' in January. Wtf?

Why would companies make easter eggs with best before dates before easter?

Them eggs are not unsold stock from last year. I work for Cadbury's and can confirm that we sent down to Woolies numerous trailers just before Christmas (late December 2007) and still sending them now. Cadbury's has exclusive deal with Woolworths this year. Same deal they had last year with ASDA and if you do remember Easter eggs were for £1 in all ASDA stores before February, then £3 for two and closer to Easter prices went up.

the tesco store i work in got their supply of eggs in on xmas week,if you can get large eggs for a £1.00 anywhere,i would get well stocked up with them just now, chances are their sell past date will be till at least july this year
#21
I agree with Pred. Easter eegs are just one big commercial rip-off, just like valentines day cards and all that 'hearts and flowers' **** they sell at places like Clintons and suchlike. It's just an excuse to sell expensive, unneeded and useless product, nothing more. I do honor these traditions for fear of being labeled as a tight git, but I still think it's utter BS.
#22
However, for a £1 an egg, it isn't that much of a ripoff.
Note to self: pop to Woolies tomorrow!
#23
At £1 an egg it's a good deal. But Easter is a rip-off, that was my point :)
#24
Not cheap Tesco sold them 6 for £5.00 last year, I an sure they will do the same this year.

It shames me that we [British consumers] are prepared to tolerate this aggresive sales strategy. Even with an early Easter this year, this is nothing more than a **** take.
#31
Great deal. Only problem is it's a long time until Easter and I doubt there'll be any eggs left to give out by then!

Voted hot!
#32
It's not that far away as Easter is in March this year!
#33
The thing is, lots of people think they are smart, and buy the easter eggs now, and then they are tempted, and the eggs get eaten before easter, then you need new ones...... I am not saying all do this, but some will, and then they will make more money in the long run. And also, you will make your competitors, that also sell eggs, make less profitt if you sell 90% off all eggs cheap before easter, and then get your usual 20% of the remaining sold for full price.

i still have some left over from last year in cupboard from when tesco were selling them by the tray for a fiva lol, they're well out of date like but still taste just as good!! there's nothing like a cadburys buttons easter egg on xmas day, thats what i say!!
#37
If i bought some now I'd end up eating them!!!
#38
I better not buy any or Il be having a little Cadburys baby being born at Easter.....I cant resist when chocolate is in the house. I'l come up with alsorts of valid reasons why it has to be eaten!!!
#39
Thanks Shelley :) heat & rep left! Picked a few up in BigW at Parkhead tonight :)
