Most independent butchers source their meat from the same suppliers as the multiples,
very few use bone in beef now.

Yes, you're right, and it's so sad! And it wouldn't happen if people keep thinking that the supermarket is the place to buy meat.

Vacuum packed meat is pure and utter rubbish, because most of the time it's straight from the abattoir, and soaked with blood. Yukk. If only people would just give a good butcher a try again, and realise what difference in taste it makes!

If I had to choose I would prefer Morridons meat over Tescos/Asdas. However voted cold because Morridons beef is not the best, far from it!!!!! And fresh meat should be the last item on the agenda of bargain hunters!

should call it wrigleys, total sh**e! go to the local butcher and support local bred beef, not this mass produced fodder

I must say these joints are terrible quality. I am a Morrisons butcher and we've got a ton of these to try and sell and no one is buying them because the packages are filled with blood. And because they come in already packed we cant do anything about it.

I'd just like to say to you all that this is no representation of Morrisons' meat. Yes our fresh primals come in vac-packed as well, but we have to open them up and trim them making them the best available in any supermarket. So if you are after a good deal i'd wait til next week when our fresh from the counter Silverside and Topside joints go on offer.

Morrisons buy their meat from local British farmers. Maybe you should do some research before posting next time.

And probably employ more butchers per town than a butcher ever would prior to the supermarket!

Macherano is a leading candidate for village troll on here. You do learn to ignore him. Great deal, I buy our meat whenever I can from Morrisons, entirely because it is 100% British. Always happy with it, although maybe I'd be 0.001% happier with the meat from my local butchers but 200% poorer. I'd be happier if I bought all my cars from Maserati too.

LMAO of course blood is seeeping out, the thing was just killed, this time of year is high turnover so meat is not hung to drain as long.

Why he hasn't eaten one he's just making an I'll informed opinion. Morrisons are passionate about being the best supplier of fresh food and would not knowingly sell crap. Yes the odd item gets through the net and always will. I bought one of these for boxing day last year and have bought one today for boxing day this year. You really won't be disappointed.

You really believe that working on the Morrisons meat counter makes him a butcher??!!

Anyway, in this post he is amazingly a fishmonger too! http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/fresh-cod-fillet-half-price-now-4-7/592731

The thing i find surprising about meat related threads on uk hotdeals is the dreadful attempts at one upmanship when it comes to butcher meat.

invariably the meat connoisseurs line up and give us the benefit of their opinionated palate and proceed to prove that they know very little about the meat industry.

Fact is that for the past 10 years or more most butchers either independent or the major supermarkets are all supplied by fewer and fewer wholesalers.

As for the comment that the joints are terrible quality what exactly is the butcher basing his observation on if they are sealed pre cut foiled vac pacs, Their appearance?

I think you will find that a morrisons butcher is a TRAINED butcher not a shop assistant, may be true for asda, tesco and sainsbury's but morrisons employ skilled butchers as butchers!

point taken on the man of many trades, most likely this person is neither.

Avoid Morrisons meat at all costs

Just to add my bit, can I say that we often get the Sainsburys vacuum packed beef which I am led to believe is generally not as good quality as Morrisons for meat, but I am no expert.
As for supporting your local butcher, my misses used to date the son of one of out butchers and they freeze all their meat before putting it on display, so it is not good if you want to buy meat to freeze as we do; we divide a large joint into three and then freeze two parts. Not as good as fresh I know but not bad for the price.
