Forgot to say if you are not bothered about it being a Network printer then the next model down MFC-240C (Printer, Scanner, Fax, Copier with sheet feeder) is still available from Argos as mentioned as part of this thread

Also with the free 3yr warranty offer

When you say 'network ready' I don't suppose you imply wi-fi do you? I ask because it'd be a bit of a bitch to cable this behemoth next to my wireless router.

Tiny, tiny shelf. :-D

guys, don't forget the MFC-820CW which is still on special at £74.99 and does include wifi

I did a brief check and the specs between these seem very similar, though the 820 has a larger lcd. Brothers list price is £159.99 for the 440 and £229.99 for the 820 so it might be worth closer inspection of the differences before choosing

The PC World deal on the 820 is now out of stock instore and online. The 820 is part of the previous range and is the Wireless version whereas this is the Network version of the current range. Specs are virtually the same otherwise apart from appearance.

If you can cable the printer then it will be faster than a Wireless connection.
Hope this helps.

yeah, it is showing that on the online page but I was out at the big PC World superstore at Staples Corner earlier today and was told there that they are expecting more stock before the 25th
#10
How many cartidges does it need? I'm hoping 2 as opposed to 4+.

Seems to have everything and laser printer speeds!

It takes 4 seperate cartridges. This is a cheaper way to run a printer as otherwise you need to replace a colour cartridge in its entirity when only one colour has run out. This way you only replace the one that it empty. Also each one is 12ml e.g. a total of 36ml across all 3 colours. HP's cartridges for instance on most of their All in Ones are 19ml containing all 3 colours and cost much more.

yes?, so if they really do get some more before the 25th/26th it can be assumed they will be sold for the advertised £74.99 as shown on that page, thereafter it will be £189.99.

I was simply pointing out the timing of the stock arriving which would give little time for purchases before the big price increase.

Can anyone find some cheap cartridges for this then, reason i want to replace mine is HP catridges price are a complete rip..
#16
oh I see... well there is nearly 2 weeks for them to get stock before the price increase. The guy said he'd give me a call (yeah, sure thing!) when they came in so if that little miracle (him actually calling me!) happens I'll be sure to post here again.

In the meantime I guess this thread is about the 440 which is available right now and looks like a good option and so voted hot

If you mention to him that you will be buying a 5 year guarentee when it comes into stock then he will probably personally call round to escort you to PC World to buy it! (They are jugded on their guarentee sales heavily)

The one you quote is obviously far larger in size but has similar overall specs and facilities. If you need 2 paper trays and a larger sheet feeder then this one is for you. Note-its from the last range of Brother printers hence the price drop. Mainly cosmetically different from the current range.
#23
does anybody know whether the printer (either one of the brother ones mentioned in this post) comes with any cartridges pre-loaded?
