Hi

Hope this isn't too dumb a question and someone knows the answer. These DVD's are in 4:3, according to the technical details. I'd prefer a 16:9 version, but I don't know and can't find the ratio they were originally shot in. Is a future widescreen (16:9) version possible? I'd hate to buy these then see one appear in the future.

Here's hoping for an informed answer !

Early B&W film of these types were shot on 35mm film and the end result is very much like 4:3.
Modern Widescreen movies shot on 35mm are filmed stretched (by using an anamorphic lens)

Hope that helps

from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspect_ratio_(image)

35 mm original silent film ratio, commonly known in TV and video as 4:3. Also standard ratio for MPEG-2 video compression.

Never. Or to put it another way you do realise how old Laurel and Hardy is right? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laurel_and_Hardy

The only way you will get 16:9 is by chopping the top and bottom off the 4:3 picture which will look dreadful as well as blowing up an already low quality image.

Don't get me wrong, even with the bad image quality I love the show and humour.
