Hi, nice find.

I assume it has no freeview built in?

Just checking - looks like it might suit my Dad we've been out looking for a 26" for him this weekend. All he wants really is 26" at least one scart socet & a headphone socket.

built in freeview would just be a bonus.

Cheers,
worto.

P.S. found a good LG one but LG strangely don't seem top do headphone socets on thier LCD tellys?

Welcome to hotukdeals mmm07, i bought 2 of these last night but i'm taking one back today as one of them was a totally different tv from the one they are selling, an older model or something with lower specs then the other one, the name is Dual, when i bought them and seen that one in a different box i said to the woman in argos why is that tv in a different box she said that it's the same tv but in an older box, lol more like an older tv, but apart from that the right tv i did get is fantastic and the picture quality looks better than my 42" plasma, so i'd say go for it.

Is 800:1 contrast ratio good for a 26" HDTV?

Whoa, are you saying that the PQ is better regardless of the fact that the plasma is 1.5 times as large as the LCD, or are you saying that, if the plasma was reduced by a factor of 1.5 (which would effectively make the PQ seem better) then the LCD would seem to have better PQ? Because if it is the former, then it isn't that surprising, as the plasma screen is simply larger. However if it is the latter, this LCD tv seems too good to be true, unless yolu bought a dire plasma.

Anyway, cheers for the post, OP.

Well all i'm saying is that when i compared this lcd out last night to my 42" plasma with sky+ and my hd dvd player the PQ was much better looking on the 26" than it was on my 42" plasma as on my 42" there is a lot of blurring around the edges of people and writing etc when watching thing's on sky+ but i didn't see it that bad if at all on the 26" lcd, so the the PQ looked much better, i don't really know much about LCD's & Plasma's but i do know a better PQ when i see it with my own eyes:w00t: lol.

Hope i've made sense & hope this helps.

my 42" plasma is 10000:1 so that's why i can't understand why the 26" looks better.

Check out Asda. They are selling the Panasonic TX-26LMD70 for £349 and the TX-26LXD70 for £449, both highly rated and with built in Freeview. Note they are also selling the lower spec TX-26LMD7 for £349 so you may need to check several locations.

As a novice at LCD v Plasma TVs I have been told that blurry pictures can be caused by the 'focal length', if you sit too close to the TV it will appear blurred. As a guideline the focal length is 7 times the vertical screen height, therefore a 26" TV could be about 8' but a 42" screen could be about 12' away, if you stand at 10' from a 26" the PQ will be A1 however PQ on a 42" will appear blurred.

Hope this helps.

I have always thought (And may be wrong) that Dual was a Walmart/Asda brand name for goods they sell. (Maybe its not Dual, been a while since I last looked at electrical goods in my local Asda)

Could it be that someone bought a cheap LCD from Asda, and the LCD from Argos and put the Dual LCD in the Argos box and took it back for a refund?

Sounds to me what has happened!

One available in Birmingham Priory square until close of business tomorrow

I was going to take a punt on this and reserved one so I have the reservation number but now I have a business trip in the morning so cannot get it.

So if you want the reservation number just PM me

We bought one of these after Christmas.

It came as a Dual, and not accoustic solutions, though there was a disclaimer on the page it could be substituted with a like for like product.

It worked fine, really good picture, but the on / off switch broke, so had to go back after 3 days.
#21
Just to confirm that Argos do substitute it with a Dual lableled TV, specs are the same, the dual one I got really has awesome connectivity

2 x HDMI
2 x Scart
2 x S-Video
YPBPR
PC
AV1
AV2

I have a dead pixel on this so Im not sure if i can take this back. Picture is good when using HDMI or HD sources, SD isnt too clever but you cant complain at this price. Excellent for console or a bedroom/kitchen TV

Hope it helps
#22
I had the dual one and it was shocking.. nuff said for tonight:p
Ill reiterate in the morning
Oh and it went back! :p;
#23
if anything is made by dual its going to be shocking quality maybe the alba/matsui/goodmans/grundig/beko brigade might not notice though
#24
I bought the AS one on boxing day, but they swapped it for a dual one, it wasnt very good though
Worse specs, horrible colour and brightness settings
It was straight back the next day
So I would advise on seeing the tv before taking it out of the shop
If it is the AS one take it If it is the Dual one DON'T!
Just my opinion though :p

Resolution 1366 x 768 pixels.

Brightness 500 cd/m2.

Contrast ratio 800:1.
I'd give this one a miss - not full HD either.......

Thanks for the tip, I just picked one of these up, it is an Acoustic Solutions (ironic name, see later) CTVL26W3HD. The display on my Xbox 360 in component 720P is excellent, probably not top notch, but for the price is amazing, much brighter and more vivid than the specs made me think, although as with most LCD's, the blacks colours aren't really black. The only downside I would say is the speakers which are rather tinny and treble happy, even with the treble turned right down. For serious use it would require external speakers, but it will do for my needs.

He probably means it doesn't do 1080P, which I don't think many (any?) 26" TV's do, and even if they did, you wouldn't see the difference over 720P.

yes that was my guess also.

Not quite sure what some folk expect for £230 :?

What do you mean the blacks dont display properly?
Like a sort of bluey colour?

No, just a dark grey like most LCD's.
#32
I picked up the dual version of this a couple of weeks ago, solely for my 360 (via vga). Its pretty good for the cash.

SD sources were pretty **** tho.
#33
Well, got my Dual version today from Uxbridge... and I can honestly say it is the worst TV I have ever purchased!

Two scart inputs, Telewest Digital box (now VirginMedia) and XBox XBMC. The picture is blurry from both machines and all the dark colours, blacks, dark browns, greys etc. just blend into one great big fuzzy dark mess. Night time and other dark scenes are unwatchable.

Don't care if the HDMI inputs are great (not tried), because this was supposed to be a bedroom TV, where I have no devices with HD out.

Going back to Argos tomorrow as faulty.

AVOID!
#34
I got the Accoustic Solutions version from Argos in Chester. Xbox 360 via HDMI looks first class, very chuffed. SD sources aren't amazing as previously mentioned, but certainly no where near as bad as some of the Dual version stories on this thread. Certainly for £230 I recon I've got myself a bargain.

I guess if they try to hand you over a Dual, demand a refund!
