rubbish. there is a reason people pay hundreds to thousands of pounds for a good wedding photographer. there are plenty of people with great cameras but they don't make a good photographer.

There once was a time when all cameras looked like this !
and didnt even need batteries, but you needed a brain to use one,
progress is very subjective

my old Olympus had a battery (om40)
I mean the deal (_;)
Not worth it mate!

Strange why this is cold imo
It's been the standard price for UK stock for a couple months now, albeit this has the accessory kit as a bonus. Heat from me
Question id like to know what are the London Camera exchange like as a shop to buy from?
Not a bad deal at all, really. OK its out of date a bit. But still pretty much a decent deal
I can't understand why this is being voted cold? Ok, so it's not actually £279, it's £299 upfront with £20 cash back, but the cheapest online is £295 for the camera without the accessory kit???
Wish people would point everyone else to a better deal if voting cold. So, hot from me unless I can be pointed to somewhere else that's not grey import.

I have the EF-530 super which is very similar. The support and instructions for this is very poor and doesn't always work as expected (drops out of HSS all the time). Given the choice I'd go for this:

I had a canon 5d mkii & 70-200 f4 L 17-40 f4L 580exi speedite too, but weren't getting the use to justify hanging on to them,I miss them & toyed with the idea of a 6d or 7d,but stil can't justify spending the money for something which will get little regular use,so I'll stick with the g12 for now

I have the G12 which produces great outdoor images, but not very good on low light indoor, higher ISO settings, poor for noise,I tried a G1x. but didn't like it,it was too bulky

I love canon both my SLR and compact are made by them and you cannot beat the quality of their L series lenses, but left them a few years back for Sony as their image processors fell behind with low light and iso.

Both cameras are digic 4 and I'm really happy with them now.

G16 is about £400 after cash-back from Canon and really doesn't add very much for £125 more. I have owned both, went from G15 to G16, basically the same camera with star trails and a bit faster focussing. I now have a Ricoh GR as my compact which is slimmer with better image quality but no optical zoom or viewfinder. If only somebody would invent the perfect camera!
Sambat
Might as well buy the G16 which can be got for £5 more.
Personally I prefer the G12 which has the flip out screen

Where can you get a G16 for a fiver more ?

It seems to be the HSM2 and not the one you mentioned (your seems to be OS, im an oly user so never thought about OS/VR). 18-105mm, I have used it on a mates D90 and to be honest, i would not bother with Kit lenses anymore. I shoot Olympus so pardon me if the glass I have mentioned is not the best glass for the Nikon system. I know Sigma are a bit hit and miss on certain glass and the variaotion in performance at different stops is key. What I was pointing at is, for any joe Blog who has the cash and wants to spend it, it would be better if they got into it one lens at a time, and buy good fast lens each time.
I have 8 lenses now, of which 3 of them are "kit" class lenses, and 2 are semi-pro level ones. The three kit lenses NEW could easily have paid for my 35-100 f2 fixed if I had not done the impulse buy and bought them to extend my reach or fill those "focal length" gaps! The Oly system still provides decent returns on the Kit glass, and I may be able to do this by next year. I hope Im making some sense here.
You seem to have an idea of what range you shoot at and stuff, so looks like the glass is what you need. Like I said, good value for the product, but I am not convinced of the product (lens).

The D7000 does seem like a cracking body. Personally I would shift from Oly only to a FF camera! And looks like you should move to the D700 as well. Skip the D7000, you'll end up yearning for the FF option!

Thanks unileeds! You make perfect sense all the way. All I'm saying is that this deal provides a serious amateur photographer with a decent mid-range startup kit of 3 lenses - for just 550 ish quid (50+200+300), which is hardly enough to buy even one pro lense with a limited application range. The kit obviously is far from perfect, but is a good match to the mid-range body and is at least 300 quid cheaper then elsewhere. At this price 2 of those lenses will retain value for at least a couple of years, by which time I would want to move on, sell em and invest into some pro glass, which I simply cannot afford right now (same applies to a FX camera: an outdated D700 body is at least 1600 quid). The long-term plan in my case is to move to FF in a year or two - waiting for Nikon to release D700's successor. In the meantime - the setup above should provide me with enough tools to polish my (non-existent) skills.

So yes, the bottom line is that you're right in the long term. But before that long term arrives, I'm aiming to take at least 25,000 shots within the next year, using all the range that the kit above provides :D

Agree, if you are a hobby photogrpaher go for it. Another thing, not sure if it will apply here, but keep FF lens compatibility in mind as well. The DX lenses wont go full esolution on a FF body, except the primes which should work fine. I wasnt aware of this and only got to know when i thought, "Ill get the D700 and all the glass will be reasonable" .. lol.. anyway im not sure if the glass on bundle here is DX or not.
Id say D700 might be old but is no way outdated either! It will probably eat the D7000 fo breakfast lunch and dinner.

And you are right, progression will mean you will start rough and move up the ladder. Its unfortunate that it has to be this way lol. You'll hate selling the glass and wont make much money back!! :)
These are good prices for Nikon lenses, even though they may not be their best/fastest glass - Nikon quality is on average above par

The D7000 has received a lot of very positive reviews from respected sources - it's worth reading to help decide (especially re the FF or cropped sensor debate) , ie: http://www.bythom.com/nikond7000review.htm

Ok so the deal is good. For what you get. But honestly after having shot SLR for 2-3 yrs now, I can say don't bother with the number of lenses you have here. All three of them are relatively slow lenses and if you start shooting indoors, you'll need to pump up ISO.

GO for body only and spend the extra 600 odd on two cracking fast pieces of glass. They dont HVAE to be Nikon. Sigma do some great fast glass and for 700 you can get the 17-70 2.8-4 Macro (£279) and for another £550 odd bucks you can bag either the 50-150mm F2.8 or the 70-300 f2.8
I mean, you will have fast glass, with macro capabilities. No point buying Nikon slow glass. You wont be able to even resell it!

Hmmm, I can see where you're coming from. However the only lens I would use indoor is the kit 18-105, the other two are for nature photography. You will be defo right if I ever decide to shoot indoor sports in low light. Sigma 70-300 2.8 - can I have the link please? :) If you mean 70-200 f2.8 EX DG OS HSM - dude, it's a professional lens (different class) and at least 950 quid - 3 times more expensive then I paid for Nikon 70-300 VR.

Sigma 17-70 2.8-4 is a good lens indeed, but I tried it before and I found Nikon's 85 3.5 to be slightly better (and 80 quid cheaper ;)). 17-70 tends to go close to f4 at the long end anyway - which is where I use it most.

Yeah interesting camera. Probably takes better pics, due to its larger sensor, but?? I'm in a similar position, really not sure - have you watched the digitalrev youtube video comparing this, NX10 and GF1?

Well, I'm off Panasonic since they made their own brand batteries compulsary. You never know what comes next from those greedy b*****ds.

I've read very good reviews for the NX10. Ultimately I would have to go to Currys and hold one in my hand.

Not sure how hot this is; Pixmania are doing the camera and the same lenses for £329+£9.30 shipping (LCE charge £5.99 or £7.99), a genuine Olympus battery is about £40 from Amazon, but a Hama clone is only £13.19. 4GB of Kingston 266x CF is £26 from Amazon Marketplace. The filters are about £7 each from Amazon. The Olympus bag may make it worthwhile, however.
Used to work for Olympus and these are often overlooked by most people - but are great cameras and very reliable - well worth a look
especially forthe price and the lenses
That's a pretty good DSLR starter kit.
