*swither...* I want it but i don't need it!

Note.... this 18cm one is the same size as a side plate, pretty small indeed.

Good price but be aware just how small this - probably only suitable if cooking for 1

Amazon regularly reduce the price of Le Creuset by 50%. As others have said - this is tiny. Take a look instore at Debenhams or John Lewis before buying to see how small it really is.

Im after a large one for a family of 3. How much are they roughly?

You should go for a 26cm or 28cm one. They are about £100-120 online, although you can get them for about £80-90 in outlet centres. It depends on the colour. There are also oval versions, good if you want to do a chicken.

Just keep an eye on amazon if you are not in a rush, you will eventually get a bargain.

Hot tip: if you ever go on Booze Cruises to Calais, etc, get your La Creuset stuff in the Carrefoures (sp?) there. It's typically about 30% of the UK price, i.e. 70% discount. You can save more money on this than on the alcohol.

I got a giant one at Costco for about 70 pounds some years ago - and that came with a griddle pan too. Yes, they are expensive, but they cook oh so well, and last a lifetime.

If you ever make your way to Calais for a day trip, you can find similar products (not Le Creuset) for alot less and similar quality.

Also check out Nisbets who are a commercial catering supply company. They sell Le Creuset, and also their own brand of enameled cast iron:

Yeah, see a good price on Amazon, place order and then wait for the email telling you its out of stock. Bunch of jokers. Whilst I realise they dont stock everything themselves, in this day and age, how can one of the biggest online retailers claim to not be able to manage their stocks of things they advertise.

I ordered a Le Creuset set a while back at a price too good to be true, only to be fobbed off by them. Even after I received the email they were still showing stock on their site.

Clowns, and now I would rather pay a few extra sterlings and get what I want elsewhere.

Get the knock back every time about a month after ordering. They simply don't deliver.

Thanks for the tips everyone!!!

I am desperate for the heart shaped casserole dish and the entire collection in red.

I think a lottery win will be required, then I'll stop cooking anyway!

But think how much fun your cook / butler will have when using them.

Well I got a set at the advertised price...... Sometimes you win sometimes you lose.

I don't get why people are saying 18cm is too small. Yeah it's too small to cook a whole meal in but do all of your pots need to be big enough to cool a whole meal in? We've got a 20 and a 24cm one and while the 20 is too small for a whole meal it's great for doing vegetables in or one serve of pasta. If all of your pots are big enough for a whole meal for a family then they will be waaaay too big for your veges or for pasta for one or anything for one.

The 18cm is not tiny at all. It's absolutely fine for lots of things. Just don't expect to cook a whole meal for a family of 5 in there!

I use my casserole to cook casseroles. For veg or pasta, I use a regular stainless steel pot / steamer.

It's also a "graded" pot.

Save your money and buy a brand new one in the proper sales, not a factory second!

OMFG..... you do realise the colour is "graded blue" as in it is darker at the bottom and gets lighter towards the top.....

This Le Creuset stock pot shows this effect off rather well. AFAIK Le Creuset only sell their seconds stuff off through their own chain of outlet stores.

Then don't buy one :) Some people like to have a set.

Wow!

Thanks mrbill for the Nisbets link, I looked on their site and they have green cast iron cookware in the clearance section down to just £9.99 for a 6 litre casserole!

And there's free delivery, too.

Fantastic!

Chasseur stuff looks horrible though. It's a blatant copy of Le Creuset as well plus it's not as well finished as well. I'm sure it's probably alright to cook with but I'll stick with the Le Creuset :)
#23
Thing is you can get the Le Creuset for a lot cheaper when there's a good deal on and you can also find a lot of good quality seconds in Le Creuset's outlet stores.
The finish on the Chasseur stuff is also not that great and it doesn't look nice either. There is a reason why Le Creuset has a good name and Chasseur is just considered a cheap immitation. If you watch lots of cooking shows you'll notice that if the cook ever uses cast iron it's almost always without exception Le Creuset and not Chasseur.
Either way I ordered one of these today to go with a 20cm and 24cm pot, a omelette pan and a grillit that we have.

Received this promptly from Amazon, and very happy with it.

Was expecting something tiny based on comments, but whilst not massize it's a reasonable size - easily big enough for a meal for two people.

So good, I've already put in an order for another one for an xmas pressie (I'm starting early:-D). It's just a shame all the blue ones have gone - I bought myself the volcanic red, but wanted the blue for the pressie - almond colour seems a bit bland, so went for another red in the end
#25
Received mine promptly as well :)

Blue and Almond ones are out of stock but they've still got the volcanic ones. I notice Potoea hasn't come on to say "oops I made a mistake" :) nice work! :whistling:
