i got a 20 inch free from freemans
#8
who would pay the full price for this ???
#9
RRP of £80 for an oven dish? Bloody hell, forgive me for being a young Uni student but what about this warrants such a huge price tag?
#10
You get what you pay for and this is quality stuff. Yes, £80 is a lot to pay for an oven dish but its a renowned quality brand. This is a bargain price, well spotted OP.
#11
Hot deal!! I have one of these and it makes the best roast potatoes!
#12
Voted hot!, Hope they honour it,as didn't get the last bargain Le Creuset stuff from Amazon:-( The only thing that could possibly improve my Toad in the hole

I thought the same when I was young. May you learn the hard way that cheap and cheerful is not always long term good value

My grandchildren will inherit my LeCreuset - yes it will last that long and still be a pleasure to cook with.

Not sure why you need a lifetime warranty on cast iron cookware though. I think you'd need a tank to damage this thing.

This is a real bargain just ordererd one great just what I have been after, thanks!

Cast iron cooks a lot more evenly than the thin bottomed steel pans you get. You don't get hot spots and cold spots so you don't get part of your piece of meat or your lasagna burnt and another part undercooked as can happen with cheap cookware.

A couple of notes of caution here:
1 The picture is of a stoneware dish not cast iron (although the description clearly says cast iron)
2 On Amazon you usually get a stock indication by adding 999 items to your basket - it will then tell you how many are actually available. In this case it accepts 999! A first in my experience and probaly a bad sign!
Not trying to rain on the parade as I have actually ordered one and voted hot - I'll just be surprised if it actually arrives!

n.b. The Amazon photo currently shows a 'Stoneware' dish and NOT the CAST IRON version - check out the other colours/size (e.g. Cerise in the 30 cm size),for verification of design.

Favoured by professional chefs, cast iron cookware simply obtains the best cooking results from all heat sources.
Even heat retention allows cooking efficiency at low or medium temperatures, therefore conserving energy and keeping fuel bills lower.

The Le Creuset rectangular dish, approx. size 40 cm x 25.5 cm x 6.5 cm can be used for roasting/baking and grilling.... plus..... it can be used on the hob!
Use with the specifically designed, and reasonably priced `Le Creuset Roasting Rack', which holds the meat away from the base of the dish and keeps the fat separate for making that superb gravy, on the hob, later on!
No need to use another pan or dish!

Elegant enough to take to the dinner table, and sure to be the focus of attention! Also available in a 30 cm size, in a variety of colours, at Amazon, today.

Easy to use and clean by hand, or pop it in the dishwasher.
With a little care, these cast iron dishes last for years.

Yes I had seen the review, but we are talking about one review and this is from someone who has not necessarily bought the item from amazon and had it delivered. As far as i know anyone can write a review whether they have bought from Amazon or not. In fact if you check out the reviewer's profile I doubt they even own all the items they are reviewing.

Le Creuset stuff is excellent. No reason to doubt that review at all.
#21
The review says you can pop it in the dishwasher. Is this true of all cast iron because I didn't think you could? The one I have is made by Viners but I was told to wash by hand & to season.
#22
Voted hot. We have cast iron creuset cookware that is 23 years old - does last for ages. Have just added this one. Nice find.

According to the Missus its a steal at this price.

Wouldnt recommend putting any of it in the DW as cast iron will cause rust marks on anything else
#23
Great find and we've ordered one for a wedding present :)
#24
This is a hot deal if you buy into the "Creuset" legend. Howver, This stuff does not last a lifetime - maybe 10 years with heavu use. I can buy TWO lifetimes of dishes for this price. Plus it is SOOOOO heavy and difficult to use. The colors also are naff, None of them belong in a well decorated kitchen - maybe a kitchen on the 70s!

Again - yes - this is a hot deal compared to other Creuset deals. But compared to other regulat cookware - the pits. IMHO...

My grandchildren will inherit my LeCreuset -

I think they'd rather you'd leave them an Ipod....but not in a ghastly orange.
#26
I almost bought one, then realised I won't be able to fit it in our oven :(
I already have one of their 'Grillit' (griddle) pans. The care instructions on that did say dishwasher safe, but we don't have one so can't comment on it's survivability. Will add that it will be heavy to use!!

We had a set of saucepans and the metal that the wooden handles screwed onto rusted away and the handles fell off. Never use dishwasher. This is a good deal but £80, cummon...!

My mum has some that's almost 20 years old. You can buy two lifetimes worth of dishes for 20 pounds?!?!?!?!?!?! Good luck to you.......

Well said. This stuff is hopelessly impractical. I don't believe real cooks use it.

As I said in my posts I have ordered one and am not challenging the worth of the Le Creuset brand - the issues being discussed were the anomalies in the Amazon listing (i.e. wrong photo and no stock feedback) and I was questioning whether the reviewer had actually completed a purchase of the item through Amazon. You can review an item on Amazon without actually buying it from them. At the risk of repeating myself - check out the reviewers profile and you'll see the submit dozens of reviews a month and it looks unlikely they bought all these from Amazon.

BTW does anyone knoe if there some sort of perk/reward to be gained by submitting tonnes of reviews on Amazon?
#31
I had a Le Creuset casserole dish crack on me - am I unique? :)

PS They are dishwasher safe - that's not how it cracked!
#32
My wife dropped the lid for a casserole and the handle broke.
I contacted Le Crueset to ask how much a new handle would be
and they sent a new one for free.
They also said we were lucky the lid itself hadn't broken.
Cast iron is strong and heavy BUT also rather brittle
.
#33
I never would have thought cast iron would break so easily.

Great post. I've just purchased one ready for mums birthday or christmas presents. Also got the matching roasting rack. Certainly looks cheap price wise compared to the stoneware dishes amazon are also selling . Might be a misprice :) but don't let amazon know till they have despatched my order thankyou ha ha.

I've been given an expected delivery date of 30th May - 11th June on my order. That smells like there's no stock at the moment and another one of those 'unlikely to materialise' orders. Anybody got a better delivery date?
#36
delivery 27th May - 2nd June ordered last night. Just tried to order another one for a present but out of stock now.

My e-mail also said 27th May - 2nd June, but when I logged into my Amazon account it said 30th May - 11th June. I'm not going to hold my breath.

Looks like I might of missed the boat on this, the link doesn't seem to let me buy it
#39
Sold out now. Ah well, would have earned me some big brownie points
