its ground up steak - surely not!

Bought this today and it was tasty. Loads of fat came out of it though so I wouldn't say it was very lean.

Thanks, OP. Heat added.

There is also some really excellent lean West Country mince half price at Sainsbury's meat counter. (Hedge End, Southampton, but may be nationwide.)

I believe the offer runs until the 20th January.

Our freezer now stocked up! :thumbsup:

put it this way it wont be fillet :p

My local butcher minces the beef in front of me and it is lean steak and it only costs £4 kilo on normal price (not on special offer), so will give this a miss.

The Tesco lean steak mince is normally £3.80 ish for 800g, which isn't that much more. Half price?! The original price is the problem. Also hint - for some recipes you can substitute the far cheaper pork or turkey mince.

Actually the Tesco £3.80 for 800g is £4.75/kg
Somerfield=£4.37 /kg

The original price ANYWHERE is irrelevant.
Nothing but marketing drivel. As an example of a super inflated original price, see today's mattress offer in Argos - 117 quid, WAS 600! This is just the same, the price today is the issue, not what they say it WAS.

Looks a decent price to me, although nothing dramatically special, and not quite in the league of some of their better deals.

In my wildest dreams I can't think of any situation where pork or turkey mince would be any sort of substitute for beef though!

If you have the luxury of an easily accessible butcher, with pricing like that then dead right, stick with him! :-)

Probably why it was tasty then... the fat is where the taste is!
