  You can buy the older Leapfrog Tag and use them with the junior books. This one won't work with the older books so you would just have to go out and buy the other one a couple of years down the line.
  
  "The Tag Reading System pen will work with Tag Junior books, but the Tag Junior is not compatible with Tag Reading System books."
  
  "Please Note: That if the Tag Reading System pen is used with the Tag Junior board books, it will read these books the same way the Tag Junior will, a complete page at a time.

  Watchdog had a piece on them not upholding their deals the other week. Might be worth sending them the details of any cancellations.
