Lebara Mobile is a fairly new mobile phone netork which is promising cheap mobile phone calls to the UK and abroad. Ironically, they offer international calls from your mobile (to international mobiles and landlines) cheaper than most mobile networks offer calls to UK landlines!!

**Lebara Mobile uses the Vodafone network's equipment, so coverage is likely to be similar to that of Vodafone**

Calls and texts messages to UK mobiles and landlines are chearged at a flat rate of 10p per minute/text. International text messages are charged at 10p per text.

Here are some examples of international call rates:
* Poland: fixed line 4p per minute and mobile 9p per minute
* USA fixed line 4p per minute and mobile 4p per minute
* India fixed line 5p per minute and mobile 7p per minute
* China fixed line 4p per minute and mobile 4p per minute
* Pakistan fixed line 5p per minute and mobile 7p per minute
* Australia fixed line 4p per minute and mobile 15p per minute

Lebara's website and customer services are also multi-lingual.

If you purchase a SIM pack and register online before 30th September then each month you top up with £20 or more you will receive 10% of your top-up value as bonus credit the next month! See their site for more details.

The SIM pack is £2.99 and comes with £1 airtime. As far as I can establish, postage is free.

THIS SIM CARD WILL WORK IN ANY PHONE THAT IS *UNLOCKED*. To test this, try a SIM card from another mobile network in your phone (you may need to borrow one from a firend if you don't have one spare). If it works okay then it *should* be unlocked. As Lebara works on the Vodafone network, the chances are that the SIM will work in phones locked to Vodafone without the need for unlocking.

you can buy on ebay very cheap from 49p
on ebay cheap

The network infrastructure is provided by Vodafone, so the coverage should be the same as Vodafone (and if your phone is locked to Vodafone then this SIM will most likely work without the need to unlock your handset).

I'll add this to the OP.

Updated OP and second post with more links/details.

#11

#12
duckmagicuk how does this compare with nomi-mobile? they both offer the same sorts of services but i can see that nomi-mobile (nomi-call) are a bit more expensive on some destinations, just would like your expert opinions on it please - thanks,
#13
lebara webpage saying pakistan landline and mobile 7p (where you getting the rates from duckmagicuk? [trying not to sound rude])
#14
Good for roaming, but for international calls I find www.rebtel.com much better.
And you dont have to change the sim.
#15
These have been out a while. Shop around your local stores. even convenience stores stock these. The local retailer I use gives these sim cards with £5 pre-loaded credit for just £5. Meaning the sim card is free.

It all depends on where you're calling. You need to shop around a bit. :)

I have used Lebara while in Tenerife and was happy with it. Useful to have when abroad as standard Sim cards cost a small fortune.
#24
Is there a similar service that uses the o2 network by any chance? My phone is locked to o2..

Have been using this for a couple of weeks to call Singapore, very happy with the call quality, bought locally for a fiver with £5 airtime so worked out at 0.

:

Has no connection rate. You give two numbers (source and destination) and it connects the 2 numbers. So web access is required. If both these numbers fall in the list of free inclusions, you can talk for free.
Eg: UK landline to US landline/mobile. Or UK landline to Korea/singapore Landline.

I've been using it ... gives you details of your usage so no problems of abrupt money deduction like with some calling cards,

Does anyone know the best solution for calling UK via mobile in Russia and also receiving within Russia...just got last months bill...scarey!

Seen some sims advertised and they talk about tarriffs 'within' the Moscow area, dont think it said definition of within but I'm often.....well not within!
#33
Very good question, Gogboy. My sister has a lot of Russian friends and sends lots of texts to them which apparently cost a bomb. Anybody know of a good sim to save her money?
#34
I use the world tariff on www.talkmobile.co.uk the SIM is free and the calls are the same price or cheaper than the above....
#35

The Orange Camel Payg sim does calls abroad from 5p to landlines and 6p to mobiles, texts to any network abroad is a standard 15p,uk calls are 20p per minute.

Seems people calling abroad get a better deal than calling the uk,how can that be?

Get a Russian sim, then text the UK when you want to call.

A call to a Russian mobile via 0844 4623030 is 2p a min so about a seventieth of the cost of a roaming call to the UK (or less).

If you go with Megafon, you can text them for free via the net/

Best UK sim for texting Russia is Blyk at 10p a text.

Thanks for the info, I had to sort something out before your reply though, ended up getting a go-sim...probably not the best but better than Orange!

How do you get a Russian sim, they didn't seem keen to sell them?
