I used to have some of thee the big draw back with them I found is that I constantly forgot to turn them off and so the batterries were always dead when I needed the light.

No, there about 1 1/2 candle brightness looking at the ones we got. Waist of time and will cost you loads in batteries and hassle.

Would I be correct in assuming these Lidl ones take button cell type batteries?

As mentioned Poundland sell these, they are ok for using in a cupboard

These are very handy, but as mentioned you can generally find these in a triple pack like this in the £1 type stores, although you need to make sure they are not the rubbish ones with only a single LED, which is a waste of time.I got a couple of triple pack LED light sets, each with 3 LEDs, and they were only £1.99 in poundstretcher a couple of years ago, and found them very useful as reading/cabinet lights in our caravan. They used 3 AAA batteries each, which last a long time, so avoid cheap batteries, as they'll probably leak before they run out.
