No it won't twinkle. GNER services operate on the East Coast Main Line (ECML) from Kings Cross. The route they take is London>Peterborough>Grantham>Doncaster>Wakefield>Leeds

If you want a service from/to Manchester or Wigan, you need a Virgin Trains service from London Euston

Thanks emasu...I usually use Virgin but ever hopeful for a bargain:-D

From the same Wiki entry....
In July 2006, the think tank Reform calculated rates of crime for different offences and has related this to populations of major urban areas (defined as towns over 100,000 population). Leeds was placed 11th in this rating (excluding London Boroughs, 23rd including London Boroughs).

So they managed to conjure up another 12 areas more 'crime-ridden' than Leeds when they broke London down into boroughs leading me to the conclusion that London's a crime-ridden hole but it's still my home, I like it here & I'm sure I'd be big enough to take any cracks about my home town on the chin & that Leeds posters are big enough to do the same.

I bet that would cost at least £20 for a return ticket...!

While we are on the subject of train tickets, though a bit off topic. I may need a season ticket (commuter ticket) for Huddersfield - Manchester Airport. I have been quoted £218 a month.

Does anyone have any ideas on anywhere else I may be able to get it from cheaper than that. At that kind of price, the government wonder why people don't use trains and drive? :w00t: :w00t:

Spladam,
Open return being £13.50 - I did this for the 28th of April but try calling you local train station and get them to find you the cheapest price.

Nice deal, if you happen to be really lucky and find cheap tickets when you want to travel. I've got trip to London in a couple of months, cheapest train ticket at least £80 now. Will use the car, [email protected] public transport.

Thanks for your reply.

A open return is almost certainly not £13.50!! Saver return is £16 odd, so open return will be more than that. :-)

A cheap day return ticket is £13.50, but I don't think those can be used before 0930.

I asked in the ticket office last week, and he quoted me the £218 for the season ticket. Surely there must be a cheaper ticket?!

The cost of trains in this country is outrageous. In Italy I was using Eurostar all over the country for 30EUR!

Without any information on when exactly you want to travel I don't know how you expect me to help you. Book early and the cheaper the ticket will get, buy two singles - it could work out cheaper.

The point I'm trying to make is - the earlier you book the cheaper it will be.

Why don't you call again and speak to a different person - not happy with the quote? Ask them to find a cheaper alternative - be it buying a railcard or whatever.

If you don't like the price, don't use the transport. But I do believe that London - Leeds for a fiver is a great price!!!

Nope. I want a season ticket (as in a ticket commuters use every day) from Huddersfield to Manchester Airport. It was £50 odd a week or £218 a month.

I asked them again yesterday, and tonight checked TPE's website and they are all the same price.

Railcards are not something I know much about? What kind of discounts on rail fares can they give?
Becksdawe

This £5 Leeds to London offer is great, for sure, there is no question about that.

But using the trains regularly in this country is NOT cheap. It is hardly surprising people drive. I reckon if the government want people to use public transport, they have to do something about the escalating costs.
