Left 4 Dead 2 Steam pre-order with exclusive in-game item and early demo access £26.99

£26.99 @ Steam
This is of course for the PC. Unlike the Amazon pre-order at the same price, steam offers an exclusive early access to the demo, exclusive in-game baseball bat item as a melee weapon. This is true…

Unlike the Amazon pre-order at the same price, steam offers an exclusive early access to the demo, exclusive in-game baseball bat item as a melee weapon.

This is true also for the 4-pack deal posted:
http://www.hotukdeals.com/deal/481995/left-4-dead-2-4-pack-80-99-works-ou/

The downside is of course you must then install Steam on your PC, and you have to download the game instead of getting a disc. Which also brings about the fact that you can't re-sell the game as 2nd hand copy.

Another deal is the bundle pack for Left4Dead 1 and 2 together for just £44.98.
This is a bargain if you don't have the first one, which is a great game in its own right.

i doubt many people would want to buy a 2nd hand PC game especially when the online co-op play is a staple part of the game :)

better tell the mrs about this, i am certain shes gonna get this on the day of release.

steam is pretty kool so no biggie for most ppl

Hopefully this will be longer than the first!

meh ... I got bored of this game ... there'll have to be something pretty epic in the new one to make me even consider buying it - it's just an addon pack essentially.

Tempting. I am trying to guess what the price of the retail box will be on day of release. Do you reckon Game will charge full £34.99 or something????
#6
Even if you bought it on disc, the key would be registered to your steam account, so there isn't any re-sale opportunity anyway.

Unlikley to drop lower than that for release day

Still Amazon (& Play) coming the cheapest @ £26.99 for a retail copy as the OP says

I was just checking around for prices myself, I couldn't believe Zavvi are trying to sell a PC game for £35+?

If you pre-order from Steam does it 'pre-install' itself before release date (when available) and then send extra code at the last minute to enable the game?

If not this is the only downside I can see when thousands of people are downloading it at the same time on release day, it's not resellable so a physical item doesn't really matter, and you'd have to install Steam even if you bought it from a non-steam store as far as I know.

Left 4 dead the original never seemed to lose it's value, and still selling now for £24/26 I can't imagine L4D2 coming down that much myself really.

.

Yes, majority of the data gets released in advance. Works just fine on day of release in my experience, with a just a short wait while the last bit is released.

Nice one  thanks for clearing that up, I was going to search through the Steam site to make sure but I was too tired last night.

AAAHHH so annoys me when people say this:

The downside is of course you must then install Steam on your PC, and you have to download the game instead of getting a disc. Which also brings about the fact that you can't re-sell the game as 2nd hand copy.

1: The DVD and Download version is 100% the same = have to install steam whatever version.

2: You can't re-sell the DVD version as it's 100% illegal the game registers itself to a steam account, making the disc 100% useless making it exactly the same as the download version, it just put the files on your system so you don't have to download them which this version is, but once the files are on your disc there exactly the same, you cant change your account, resell the account or use it twice at the same place, no matter if you used the DVD or downloaded the files!!!

YOU STILL HAVE TO REGISTER IT TO A STEAM ACCOUNT!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHH

If for instance you did sell the DVD to someone else when they went to run it and install it, it will say this game is already registered to another account, which only you the original purchaser knows the user name and password (your steam details) and it's illegal to sell these details
If it wasn't it would be exactly the same as the download version you would just share your username and password!, when you logged in with those details whether you originally had the download version or DVD version it would automatically start downloading the game for you unless you canceled and then ran the disc.

3. Even if you use the DVD version to install, it will have the majority of the files like the pre-download directly from steam, it will still need to download the rest of the files and also sync with steam so your be no better off then the the people who pre-download it, just you have to wait for it to arrive to your house when it will unlock to us all simultaneously!

Also if you don't have steam already your have to register with them and make a account before you can do all of this unlike the people who already direct pre-order!!

Meh some people just don't get it. since I owned L4D1 which was a retail copy purely because it was £17.99 not £25.99 which steam wanted, I haven't even used the Disc once If I do format my PC I just back up the game through a tool in steam to my external HDD and load it up that way saves re-downloading the game after loading the disc again, I can't sell it either as it's now linked to my account.

Either way you have to download the remainder of the game.

But L4D2 is the same price as retail and you get so many positives and will be able to play the full game before retail copies!

No, L4D2 is not essentially an add-on.

They've reworked the Director engine, making dynamic maps where the route isn't the same every time (Not just weapons in dif spots) etc, this couldn't be released as an add-on pack as the old maps etc aren't compatible.

If you google for any of the information about L4D2, the boycott, Valve flying people over to try the game out, you'd realise this.
