Left 4 Dead 2 - Xbox 360 - £24.99 @ HMV online

Left 4 Dead 2 is the sequel to the best-selling and critically-acclaimed co-operative multiplayer smash from Valve. The title adds melee combat to the award-winning L4D style of play, with items such as a chainsaw, frying pan, axe, baseball bat, and more. The setting is at roughly the same time as the original just after the outbreak that turned most of the population into various zombie mutants.

I think I saw a deal for a sense of humour at Tesco for £15, RRP was £34.99. I think it may be a misprice

You don't need to play the first at all, so no worries there.

You could, but you may be waiting a long time. The first game held its price well. Of course now that I've said that Zavvi will crash it down to £19.95 on Monday, but hey ho.

The game is well worth £25 either way in my opinion, so I'd highly recommend people go for this. I bought it for £32 from someone on here just after release, and think it was excellent value for money at that price.

Going to hold off until this is under £20, which I think will be soon after Christmas.... Still if you want it now, it's a good price!
#16
I think this one will drop much faster than the first game did, the first game was a bit of a niche and was extremely popular on XBL where as nothing can even begin to compete with MW2 at the moment.

The first game had to compete with the original MW though, which lest we forget toppled Halo 3 as the most popular game on Live.

Does anybody know if this is instore aswell? I have £25 of HMV vouchers so this is perfect but the nearest HMV to me is 20 miles away.

I disagree the first MW had much better mutliplayer than this new one and left4dead 2 improves on left4dead in every way possible.

superb price but all this talk of co-op has put me off it. i just want a normal single/loner/billy no-mates campaign mode.

In that case, as good as this game is (and it is excellent), I don't think it's a game for you. You can play the game single player with 3 AI team mates, but the experience is a hollow shell of what you get playing co-operatively. The game was designed from the beginning to be the definitive zombie co-op game, and that is how it is really designed to be played. If you just want an excellent single player campaign there are plenty of games out there that offer that. This is not one of them.

I liked the 1st game a lot, but the content here really struck me as something they could have dropped as DLC as aposed to releasing and charging full price. But once this hits -£20 me and my pals will get it.

You can have this as the other 3 will be controlled by the computer.

This is a good game, but not too dissimilar to L4D1. But it was already a contender for the greatest game on the 360 so it doesn't matter.

I doubt it will get to £20 any time soon, I had to wait for months for L4D1 to even get to £25.

This is a bargain and would recommend all to buy.

A few people have raised this concern, and a few other people (including myself) have attempted to offer reassurance, and I will do so again. I had the same concerns on playing the demo, but on playing the full game this is certainly a sequel and nothing less. Just about every major aspect of the game has significantly improved, which takes it far beyond DLC and well into the realms of 'excellent sequel' territory.

Thanks for the feedback. I have read only good things in reviews and value someone who's actually played both games opinion. The main issue I had with the 1st game was the lack of variety. Too few weapons, infected type and levels. But these seem to have been adressed.

Rep left.

Spot on. I don't see what peoples problems are. I've made this point before but anyway, a sequel is supposed to be similar. I keep comparing it to MW2 where I think the multiplayer is very similar to the first. What about many other sequels or series of games. Of course they are similar. The fact is LFD2 has a load of new maps, new special infected, new weapons, new game modes and new gameplay. I honestly just believe the people who think it is just an expansion have never played the 2 games and are just repeating stuff they read on the internet before L4D2 was released.

Not only that, but each of these additions is worthwhile. The new campaigns, for example, are excellent, and better than the original campaigns by some distance. I was critical of the campaigns in the first game for lacking imagination. I'm not saying every level of every campaign in the sequel will blow your socks off, as some are better than others, but the overall increase in quality is clear for all to see.

just to back up what everyone else is saying this game is well worth getting even if you have played the original left4dead

Why do you say that?
#31
I think MW set the standard, and MW2 is just a variation on it. Its not better or worse, its just different. I think I favour the first one though because you got the AK-47 to start with and the unlocks system was more simple.

You can play split screen with one other player (and 2 AI characters), which is still significantly better than playing single player. Online is up to four, though you can play online with someone else playing split screen on your machine, which is handy.

I presume the split screen is only in the sequel, and not the original game?

Just asking as I only have the orginal but never noticed a split screen option.
