The sequel to the critically acclaimed Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2 for Xbox 360 takes play in the deep South of the USA. Set in a modern day survival-horror universe, the co-operative gameplay of L4D casts four "Survivors" in an epic struggle against hordes of swarming zombies and terrifying "Boss Infected" mutants. Left 4 Dead 2 on 360 adds melee combat to enable deeper co-operative gameplay, with items such as a chainsaw, frying pan, axe, baseball bat, and more.

Introducing the AI Director 2.0, L4D's dynamic gameplay is taken to the next level by giving the Director the ability to procedurally change weather effects, world objects, and pathways in addition to tailoring the enemy population, effects, and sounds to match the players' performance. The result is a unique game session custom fitted to provide a satisfying and uniquely challenging experience each time the game is played.

Featuring new Survivors, boss zombies, weapons, and items, Left 4 Dead 2 for Xbox 360 offers a much larger game than the original with more co-operative campaigns, more Versus campaigns, and maps for Survival mode available at launch.

Left 4 Dead 2 for Xbox 360 features:

* Co-operation of the Dead: The fan favourite co-op shooter returns with five brand new campaigns and a more detailed story.

* Survival equipment: Wield new melee weapons, including axes, baseball bats and a chainsaw -or make use of the new assault rifle or silenced machine gun.

* Mutant evolution: Face off against new mutant types, including the fast moving Charger, the new Wandering Witch and fire resistant zombies.
* Virtual Spielberg: Revamped AI director watches how you play and increases or decreases the challenge accordingly, even altering the layout of the levels as it sees fit.

* Team works: Four new characters to play as: TV reporter Rochelle, mechanic Ellis, conman Nick and an American football school coach known simply as... Coach.

I haven't seen/played the first in the franchise, or the demo &/or full version of this second installment, but I'm still waiting.

Hopefully this price will help somebody still buying in time for Christmas though.

They are like GAME's parent company.

...and yes, I prefer GAME too :)

I haven't ordered from GamePlay since they refused to sell me a Limited Edition 160Gb PS3 last year because of a credit checking issue. GAME has no problem selling it to me!

Does anybody have a view if this title is worth buying (at this price, or at all)?

I tried to buy from Tesco Entertainment for £15 (like everybody else, it would seem) as Santa is bringing me an Xbox 360 console this year, but without any knowledge of the franchise I am finding it difficult to ascertain if the game-play is similar to (later) "Resident Evil" titles or a generic shooter and, hence, if it is worth near £30 to find out.

Can somebody enlighten me please?

Thanks.

It's nothing like resident evil.

This is a series of (5?) unrelated chapters that justify themselves under the pretense of a city being plagued by zombies and you are the only people left there with them. There is no story. The gameplay is all shooting in first person view. From what I have played, the first game was better than this one.

I got this for £15, and that's about what it's worth. If you love the first game I guess you'd pay the £29 for this, but don't think it's worth that seeing as it is fundamentally just 5 new levels, and pretty much the same as the first title.

This isn't in the same league as resident evil.

Thank you.

Sounds like I should buy the first in the series (for a lower price now) & see if that suits me, or wait until I connect to Xbox Live (after Christmas Day) & download the demo version.

I'm still working my way through "Resident Evil 5" anyway, & I never did get to finish "Resident Evil 4 (Wii Edition)", so I've probably got more than enough (better) titles of this type until "Dead Rising 2" is released next year.

Thanks again for your comments.

I have to admit, i think the left for dead series is great, me and my mates were stupidly addicted to the first one for a very long time. i think this has to be the best co-op first person shooter about. Its also probably the most fun and even better when it get quite hectic. i would certainly recommend the first one if you are unsure about getting the sequal without playing any but going on the demo of this i think i will be enjoying left for dead 2 alot from christmas day onwards

Thanks for your contradicting viewpoint but a recommendation in any respect :)

I too enjoy co-operative games such as “Resistance: Fall of Man” (offline), “Resident Evil 5” (both offline & online, but I prefer offline), & the "Nazi Zombie" maps in "Call of Duty: World at War" (offline & online, but again better offline in my opinion).

(Such a pity when "Resistance 2" dropped the co-op campaign mode option; I lost interest in it very quickly)

You really need a couple of friends to get the best out of Left4Dead. I haven't played the sequel but my experience with the first one was great.

Basically you and said friends must get from point A to point B as waves of crazed Zombies hunger for your flesh. And these aren't the stumbling Romero type but rather the 28 days later/ Dawn of the dead remake fast zombies.

Amazing game, not like res evil, i found res evil awful, but its all about what you like i suppose..you cant really compare the two, they are so different!
anyways L4D2 i have both the PC version and the XBOX, the PC version is better graphically, without a doubt. I would say dont buy it if you are a single player fan, whilst it has a single player mode, its basically the same thing but with Bots, however if you like online play, particually co-operative and teamwork designed games, i dont think there is anything out there to beat it. So much fun, we set a trap up last night, i was a smoker (zombie that can drag people with its tounge and another guy was a spitter (spits acid), got him to drop the acid and i pulled the survivor thru the acid with tounge, just a great game when teamplay is there :) as previously mentioned it proberbly helps when you have people you know for the teamplay aspects.

My advice to you would be as you say wait till your conencted to Xbox Live. There may be a price drop and honestly thsi game doesnt offer much if your playing on your own, its a much better game when your playing multiplayer or co op but I would say avoid it until you have Live.
#21
I probably posted the same on the other thread but anyway. I love the original L4D game, probably my most played game ever. So far loving the new one but haven't got too far in to it. Don't worry what anyone says about it only being 5 new maps, each of those have 5 levels and it's a game you can replay over and over again, especially the in the Versus mode. It isn't just an expansion, those saying that haven't a clue or haven't played it.

IMO Res Evil 5 is really awful in comparison, totally different type of game anyway.

That's a video of survival mode in Left4dead 1. Now although this isn't the Co-Op game (it's one of the multiplayer gametypes) you do get a fair representation of a group of people playing together and what the game is like when you get hit with a mass of Zombies (which does happen in the regular game).

Thanks.

As a comparison I just watched some of these videos of the first 30 minutes of "Left 4 Dead 2" hosted at YouTube.com but embedded in an article at ComputerAndVideoGames.com:

"Left 4 Dead 2: 30 minute video"

Don't watch too much, though, if you don't want to spoil your own experience with the game.

L4D2 is worth the money over L4D1 just for the scavenge mode IMO.

Just dropped a penny to £28.98!?!
