Left 4 Dead

Setting out to do for co-op gaming what Counter-Strike did for team combat, Left 4 Dead is an ambitious survival horror game. Running on the Source engine, Left 4 Dead leaves four armed survivors of a world overrun with zombies, and they must fight their way out to escape the outbreak.

Designed for co-op play, the four players must work together to finish each stage of the game, lending each other artillery support, sharing ammo and rescuing each other when zombies are on top of them. In addition to the standard four players as humans, another four players can be amongst the masses of assaulting zombies, seeking to take down the other players. Zombie players might even find themselves become one of the four mutant "boss" zombies, who have unique powers that can be used to devastate, injure, tie up, mark and track, confuse, or even humiliate the gun-toting human survivors.

In the 2 for £20 too

Game modes

Left 4 Dead contains four game modes: campaign, versus, survival, and single-player. The cooperative campaign consists of up to four human-controlled survivors who attempt to make their way between safe rooms and eventually to rescue. In this mode, the special infected are controlled by the AI. In a versus campaign, each team of one to four players plays each chapter of the campaign as both survivor and infected, swapping sides once per chapter. Unlike campaign mode, dead survivors do not respawn. If at least one player-controlled survivor finishes the level, the survivor team earns 100 points as well as bonus points based on their health and the health items in their inventory. These points are then multiplied by the chapter's difficulty level, and the number of survivors who finished. If all player-controlled survivors are killed, the survivor team only earns points according to their average progress through the chapter and the difficulty multiplier. Survival mode consists of a timed challenge where players try to survive as long as possible against a never-ending flood of the infected, added in April 2009 in the Survival Pack downloadable content. Single-player mode is basically the same as campaign mode, but played offline with three AI-controlled bots as the other survivors. On Xbox 360, other players can join in on the same console to turn single player into an offline co-op game. The game can also be played through a system link, or local area network.

Which in all fairness just includes sum free dlc so not really worth it.

Left 4 Dead games are amazing fantastic price considering the game is designed for online gaming!

£1 more for GOTY edition, also 2 4 £20 offer, not particuallarly appealing when there's nothing else for a second game as part of the offer.
Still hot tho.
#9
Where can I get the GOTY edtion then ? this seems like a very good price...
#10
So you can definitely play it on your own?

I don't really play games online you see.

classics version is on their site @ £12.95 - search left & it's in the drop-down list that appears

Great game online, and fun in 1 player but really should be played with as many liveware players as possible.

GOTY is a waste as it contains free DLC.

I would personally get L4D2 - not to start a flame war but it's a better all round game and worth the extra investment (if you haven't already bought this one).

Hot deal!

Not for the Xbox, which is paid so the GOTY edition is worth the extra quid.

Incorrect. The GOTY includes the survival pack which is free to download: http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/games/media/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80245410830/

If you want Crash Course you have to buy it separately.

I thought I was right.

Don't get me wrong - I got my money's worth out of both Survival Mode and Crash Course, but I don't really see how they can call this a GOTY edition compared to Gears of War 2 GOTY / Modern Warfare GOTY etc. which did contain paid for DLC etc.

no matter how much i detest shopto, ive ordered. Great price . H& R

Dead Space Extraction arrived this morning, and now I've ordered this for myself. Hot! Can't wait.

I absolutely *love* Left 4 Dead 2 - playing it every night pretty much on PC and xbox 360. With that in mind is it worth picking up the original?

Love the game format so be cool to play on different levels etc.
#22
for those that have played this version, how many players can play coop on xlive? I have 3 friends that may join me in buying it.

:) Everybody has their price, it would seem.

I've resisted ordering anything from ShopTo for eleven months (& counting) now.

Why don't you like them?

I've ordered a few titles so far for some brilliant prices and got the games quickly in perfect condition.

Bad experience?

You play it on PC and 360! That's hardcore. I've gone for the PC version on both occasions. Some of the level design of the first game is superior to the sequel, but you may find it odd with the reduced infected types and lack of melee. Personally I prefer the Survivor mode on the original as they are better locations.

On the PC modders are hard at work making the original levels compatible with the sequel although it requires owning both titles. Whether or not Valve make them officially backwards compatible remains to be seen.

It's four player co-op online and absolutely brilliant. The splitscreen mode is only two player though.

Ah nice one - thanks for that. I didn't realise there was no melee in the original. I haven't played anything other than campaign yet but do want to try survival mode out.

Like the idea of modding the PC version of 2 to allow the original levels. If Steam drop the price of the original during a weekend sale I'll grab it.

I love owning both versions as it means I can play with different people and friends. Also, the experiences are different as hardly anyone uses headsets on the PC version but a lot do on the xbox. Nice to have the true 1080p, improved graphic rendering and increased FPS on the PC.
Will quite happily get the original on both formats if it's a good experience at the right price.

Oh yes... many of us have had bad experiences with ShopTo :(

For example, a comment in another thread that prompted my response & a follow-up comment.

I have had a mixed service from ShopTo.net but, in majority, their deliveries reach me in good time with the single pre-order I have placed ("Killzone 2" Limited Edition Collector's Box) arriving a day before the official release date.

However, my two most recent orders (the last being in February 2009) blighted my experience.

The item was "The Lord of The Rings: Conquest" [PS3]. It arrived well packaged (as usual) but looked like it had previously been played. In their defence I did not complain (as a day in the ownership of the intended recipient, aged 7, would end in the same result anyway, and), it played fine so that was OK. If it had been a game for myself then I would have made them aware of the issue.

However, during May 2009 I received a call from my Credit Card Company asking if I was in Malaysia... and if I was requesting to withdraw cash on the account.

It wasn't me (of course), and upon further investigations I found that other customers of ShopTo.net had reported the misuse of their card details.

Now, I'm not saying it was a definitive cause of shopping with ShopTo.net but if you use Google (or search at HotUKDeals.com as well as many, many other online forums) you will find some very convincing evidence from people who only used their specific credit card at that online site & also were victims of card fraud.

ShopTo.net's response to the allegations recorded in their own online forum:

Also of note is that I tried to purchase more than 2 SIXAXIS Controllers (as we had three PS3 consoles at that time) & it was not possible to do so. They placed a restriction on the quantity that any individual could order (probably because the prices were competitive & they did not want people making a profit in re-sale on the top of their low prices).

BFN,

fp.

PS. The subject comes up again... Bioshock 2 (360/PS3) Limited Edition £58.86 @ ShopTo.

Thanks for the info. Always important to have as much info as possible on places we order from. I'll still use them as they have been fine for me so far but will keep my eyes fully open in future.

I work in web development and know first hand what can happen to sites that process CC data and aren't fully secure.

Hot! A must buy for any fan of FPS, my fave online multiplayer game...next to the sequel of course

Always looking for good people to team up with
Feel free to add my Steam details as I play L4D2 most nights: Matt Beeching

Must confess that I've now become completely addicted to Versus mode though. Despite the fact I really didn't care for it in the original.

Thanks Matt - I'm the same as you and always on the look out for decent team mates. That's what I really love about this game - finding great people to team with.

Will add you to Steam. Will be playing the campaign mode for a while I think but then might give the other modes a go. I've played for 21 hours or so on the PC version and have only played 3 campaigns so far. ;)
