Is this a geek thing? Can't be a collector's thing as being plastic can be massed produced??

Lego don't mass produce. Once a model reaches its lifespan they recall unsold and melt down the bricks to be reused. Hence rarity. Hence values rising

Sort of like logans run for Danish bricks

Nah they're too busy stockpiling them in the loft for profit, no time to vote! God forbid anyone might actually want one to display or play with...

Don't forget to add the lighting kit too. No point having it unless you going to light it up

They don't mass produce? There's millions of sets out there in the shops, the same one's for years.

By the end of 2017, LEGO will be able to sell you ANY retired set within 30 days on demand. They want to combat the resellers which are a big problem for LEGO. "LEGO Again" will be opening an eBay shop next Spring and they'll charge a 10% fee over what current RRP would be for ANY set you want. The UCS Millennium Falcon will be available from next May for £429.99. If you have big retired sets, I'd dump them now if I were you! The source is me as I used to work for them!
not doubting you, but why is it a problem for lego? people buying to stock pile and resell means lego gets through their stock quicker hence better sales. If they were to stop this people will not stock pile the stock and lego will be left with more stock as the investors will walk away
The real reason is LEGO want to make even more profit so woll do through that scheme.

Just building the Ecto 1 set that I got from a deal off HUKD a while ago. Not sure I can convince the other half that this is just what I need to park it outside of!
Good find OP.
