Actually the law is that you can't sell more than 100 in a single "transaction"... However it's obviously completely unethical to sell that many, asking for a lawsuit, against any sensible company policy etc. Supermarkets and shops can sell them in packets of up to 16, pharmacies can sell up to packets of 32 if the pharmacist is present.

However over the counter medication is only licensed for short term use... 100 is most likely not for short term use. A prescription could be for dozens or hundreds of tablets (e.g. asparin for a heart condition) and isn't limited like otcm. Bit of a grey area but don't take the "you can only have 16, it's the law" line cashiers are told as gospel.

The "law" they are referring to is the Medicines Act (1968) (which limitted the sale to 100 tablets) and the ammendment to it in 1997 (which limited the size of packets to 16 and 32). I've had this argument before with a 17 year old kid when I tried to buy paracetmeol and ibueprofen (at the same time!! :w00t: ) after breaking my leg...

What that's outrageous!! This 17 year old kid broke your leg just for trying to buy paracetemol and ibruprofen at the same time. Which chemist was that ? Name and shame I say! :whistling:

Some good knowledge there.

Only problem being you could have all the facts and laws in the world on your side but if you come up against a n0b head jobsworth who thinks they're the one who's right then there isn't normally a lot you can do about it.

Repped for the detailed info nevertheless.

Also is there anything that Lemsip does that bog standard paracetamol doesn't?
