Thought this was a good deal for a 4gb DDR3 laptop under £300. Im looking at buying one around £300 and am considering this lenova against the Sainsbury's i3 emachines laptop

This processors not bad (mostly celerons available sub £300 with the odd i3 like the Sainsburys deal)

On CPU benchmark the processor ranks 403 while the sainsbury's emachines i3-370m ranks 257. But this is lenovo (better build quality than emachines?!) and has 4gb ram and 500gb hard drive

Specs

Hi,

I will defo go for the eMachines - Its a i3 370 Processor (not 330, 350) and the entry i3 33o is far superior than this so the i3 370 is really better. I have this machine and have upgraded the ram to make 4gb - play.com sell for 13.99 1333mhz 2gb 204 pin.

I have set the laptop nicely next to the TV and use it as a media system when not mobile :D HDMI is great. Use a wirless keyboard and mouse :D

the 250gb of ram is good, but i always back up on a external HDD anyhow.

hope this helps

I beleive Lenovo is basically an IBM machine. Lenovo is a partnership between IBM and the chinese government.

the e-machine i370 is far better processor than this dated one plus you can get it for 289.99 with the vaouch on the link. i got it for that price plus poss 2% quidco

If you have the money go for this:

http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/lenovo-z560-intel-core-i5-480m-dual-core-2-93-ghz-750gb-hd-free-bullguard-bluray/880344

or the e-machine i370

Both are very value for money

I think this is a pretty good deal. Yes Lenovo aren't exactly the best manufacturer but I'd certainly prefer them over Samsung, Dell or Sony. Under £300 you hardly ever find a machine with 500GB HDD and 4GB RAM. If this had an HDMI port, I'd definitely order one myself.
Heat added.

Lenovo are an excellent brand and far superior to emachines.

Lenovo is a seperate company from IBM, they were strongly associated with IBM but in recent years this has steadily decreased. Lenovo is NOT IBM. They do make decent laptops. I'm considering the Lenovo G560 for £439 on Ebuyer, which must have been mentioned on this forum at some point,

Lenovo bought IBM's PC business in 2005.

I purchased one of these in October for a Christmas present from Dabs. It's a well built and good laptop for the price.
#16
Good deal...just the HDMI is missing.
#17
emachines is Acer - says Acer at the back of my emachines

Great deal, spoilt for choice lately! I bought the Emachines from sainsburys with employee discount for £270, had reservations about build quality but seems very well made, super light and a great keypad, all IMO. But if want the bigger HD and more RAM, this is a great alternative

I dunno....Just bought the eMachines one myself, seems a generation newer than this, with a far better CPU which is very hard to upgrade. You can get an extra 2GB of RAM for £15 from play.com and a 250\500GB hd is neither here nor there considering you can get a new one of those for £40 and sell the old one for £20....

just my opinion :)

I often do market research and Lenovo laptops are used by the research company - I don't think there is much of an issue with build quality, they are considered hard-wearing and reliable by them. Comes down to whether the spec/price is right for what you want it for.

Unknown brand. Stick with Acer. :P

P.S. Of course I'm kidding.

I currently have a Lenovo which has been great but it's about 5 years old now and has issues with it's battery and I've replaced the mains charger twice in the past 6 months. So I think it's time to replace it. I'd happily have a Lenovo again but had been looking at the Samsung i3 at Argos - this one http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/samsung-e452-core-i3-laptop-chocolate-349-99-argos/876695 . Can someone suggest which is the best option for me as I just don't know enough about this stuff - I just use the internet, look at photos, iTunes - no games stuff needed at all. £350 is about my limit and was quite liking that I could use my saved Nectar points on the Argos one. What do you think? Thanks for any help offered!
#26
God it's ugly haha, good price for those specs though ;)
#27
I wouldn't touch Lenovo with a barge pole, do not buy the warranty they use unqualified engineers, they ruined my brand new Lenovo and it took a threatening letter from my solicitor to get them to recognise their fault....never again...

Charge Time 2.5 Hours

I am a big fan of Lenovo kit usually, they make very powerful, very portable business machines. This one however does NOT fit into that category. For a new laptop to specify a 2.5h charge time and only 3 hours if you use the powersaving mode (powerstretch I think lenovo call it) compares very poorly for a machine that isn't high level multimedia or gaming spec.
Weighing in at 3+ kg too means that this is by no means a portable machine that you would want to carry around with you. It really is a case of thinkin if this is going to stay in one place at home (liekly), would you be better off with a desktop that can be built/bought to higher performing spec on this budget.
The i3 processor in that sainsburys Emachine is FAR superior to this as it is the 370 model which is a great spec chip.
