Very slow celeron processor. Can get an i3 for not much more than this. I personally wouldn't recommend.

With all due respect, you dont know what you're talking about. This particular celeron processor is as fast as some i3's.

That is a spec comparison... and with a i3 1st gen from (correct me if I'm wrong) 2009! Try comparing benchmarks with a 3rd or 4th (I bet even 2nd) gen i3 and it will get beaten every time.

Is it not an i3 then?

OK then, http://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare.php?cmp[]=1959&cmp[]=759&cmp[]=859

Anyway, my point was, this is definitely not a bad CPU and it would be silly to dismiss it because it is marginally slower than some newer i3's

The problem is that Intel reused the Celeron/Pentium names, then again it doesn't happen with cars but the same rings true, how many people here now think a new Fiesta and Mondeo in any way compare technically to the first editions over 20 years ago?

When people see Celeron they think ooh 2004 Netburst architecture performance, well they don't know the year or architecture, but they just think Celeron equals slow, but when they see the latest Mondeo they don't think ooh 1993 car do they?

Modern Celerons/Pentiums are more than good enough for most people. The Celeron in the recent Dell Inspiron 15 is worse performing than this CPU by a reasonable margin. Computer stuff it confuses people, then again the manufacturers don't do themselves any favours. I think Intel got the marketing wrong, but they're selling quite a bit of this stuff so who am I to question it.

This Celeron is ivy bridge architecture. Compared to the slowest ivy bridge i3 (Core i3 3110M) it is a little slower in single core performance but not by much and in multi core by a slightly wider margin. Neither is a speed demon. The celeron is basically a non hyper-threading i3 with a reduced clock. In basic tasks you wouldn't likely notice the difference but if multitasking there could be a significant difference. This is a good price for this laptop regardless. If you are just surfing the web and playing flash games why pay even a little more for an i3?

Once again, the i7 is 1st gen (2009 ish) and the i5 is 2nd gen. I think the point others are trying to make is that the i3's that are in the sub £300 laptops that have been on this site in the last week have been 3rd/4th gen which are far superior to this. Now, as for those laptops that have been below £200 like the Toshiba Quad Core Intel N3510 (I got that one for £199) and the £166 Dell dual core N2830, this is fine as there is quite a price difference.

I just think for very little more money there are and have been (in the last week) better options.
