Some specs..

Screen size - 15.6 in - 1366 x 768 N
Processor - Intel Celeron 1000M ?? - 1.9 GHz
RAM - 4 GB
Hard Drive - 1000 GB
Operating System - Windows 8.1
Optical Drive - DVD Super Multi
Graphics - Intel HD Graphics
Webcam - 1 megapixel webcam
Touchscreen - No

I might be mistaken but i think the processor might be 1005M but not 100% sure.. possible typo on the JL site? I googled 1000M and only see 1.8ghz but the listing suggests 1.9ghz? the 1005M is 1.9ghz..

A decent budget / starter Laptop with the bonus of the JL 2 year warranty.

would also consider...

Same price but with slightly faster CPU, smaller HDD and slightly weaker Bay Trail graphics

How does this compare to
ASUS X551MA SX030H - 15.6 in. - 4 GB RAM - 500 GB HDD
I've only a little bit of knowledge when it comes to laptops and need a bit if help. Only after doing the basic stuff on it. No gaming. Cheers

the processor in this is better plus bigger hd although 500gb is enough for most... at the end of the day a budget laptop is a budget laptop non of them will set the world on fire.

I just purchased a g505 A6 reconditioned off amazon (£222) it got delivered today and is magic :-)

Okay, thought it was a more expensive version of that £170 one from yesterday. This celeron isn't bad, supports 32GB RAM and is FCPGA upgradable, voted hot!!

I would also like help with this please. Just a definitive answer from people who know their onions.

The cpu in this is based on the haswell design so performance will be better compared to the baytrails (in the inspiron 15) but the battery life will be worse which may be something to consider
#22
For £14 more you can get a Toshiba with an Intel Core i3 3110 processor (3,063 on CPU benchmark): http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/toshiba-c50-15-6-inch-ci3-1tb-laptop-refurbished-243-94-ebay-argos-1961687 That is refurbished, so you may prefer a new one with John Lewis warranty and service but just to compare.

I just bought an i5 probook 6360b which has all of the said features, 5 hour battery life and sim card slot for 185 second hand. I managed to bargain someone for the newer version of this laptop plus i7 for 295, but went with the cheeper instead. I'm more than please.

I did own an i5 version of this inspiron laptop and it was just slow as hell and crap for getting anything done quickly. I only sold it for 130 as well...

In short, years ago I was advised to steer clear when the word Celeron was in the title, I've only used two since, both relatively recently, and performance was underwhelming, in short the economic savings are not worth the trade off in responsiveness in my experience. Both Celeron machines have been disappointing, both Asus coincidentally.
#29
I would recommend for a business models may be a used lenovo or Toshiba third should be dell but only T , X or W in lenovo , satellite pro , qosmio in toshiba and latitudes n precisions in Dell

Celerons from years ago don't relate to them now. People with a little bit of knowledge are dangerous or rather just misleading.

Careful of the hinges on Lenovo models, always google lenovo model because certain ones are very poorly constructed and the fan grate will start falling to pieces when you close it after some use.
