I wouldn't put McAfee or Norton on my worst enemies laptop, let alone my own.

I'm amazed that anyone pays for antivirus in 2017

A lot of the complaints are from tight ass Sun readers that lack the wit to buy the laptop some extra memory. Yes it might say 8GB, but you deduct a couple of GB for graphics and a couple of GB for other purposes, that leaves 4GB for windows to function in which is not very much

Seem terrible to me. Huge pixel (not even Full HD), slow due to lack of an SSD, and with McAfee slowing it down further. An i5 CPU is nice, but it does not even specify the generation (I guess Broadwell?). DDR3 RAM is already obsolete, and especially for a laptop not recommended. Seems like they are trying to get rid of old stock.

I would avoid it like the plague. There are much better offers out there.

I've got the 500, and it's a great machine (once I popped my SSD in) -- I would agree however about the build quality, keyboard and surround of screen does feel very flimsy.

THIS comment I agree with?!, hahahahaha.

I've used both paid for, and free!.

But more often than not, prefer the free regardless ..... :-)

Interesting point's you raise there?.

Then in effect, this SHOULD in effect be wayyy cheaper than that of what it is then here, huh?, or .....

Would you be kind enough to point us eager laptop-shoppers at the better offers?

8gb ram really too little? I got 4gb on my yoga and i had a hundered different windows open of multiple different apps and runs fine. I3 processor as well.
Im even playn cod4 on it on full graphics

I agree!, 4GB is more than sufficient for basic 'stuffs' really?.

Unless ofcourse your doing some hardcore Photo Editing? (and/or similar Graphically Rich Content?, eg. Video Editing, etc, etc ... )

Yep. :-)

I think this from ebuyer is better spec for an under £400 laptop. Better cpu and 256mb ssd.

Lenovo's are full of bloat ware. Well mine was! The battery won't last long either! The screen may have a poor viewing angle. I have not. Checked

Good find. I got max budget of £350 though. I know eBuyer got an ex-display one for £378.

For a non techie, why do some people choose SSD over a normal HDD?

I believe there's a speed advantage but it's a big trade off for say 25% of the capacity of similar priced 1TB.

There's really no comparison. My laptop boots in under 6 seconds now, loads and processes everything about 100% faster. SSD all the way. :P

Your having a laugh right? If you want a better display it will cost over £500 with this spec.

Found this for ~£360 at various etailers...
Although it's it's only got 4GB RAM (DDR4 too), I'm guessing an extra £40 should get you another 4GB stick.
The hook? It's a 7th Gen i5 processor. I've not seen any 7th Gen iX processors sub £400

Lol - There are much, much better deals. I got a 14" i5 Lenovo IdeaPad with SSD & 1080p IPS for £340
Just be patient and look around...

No need to be obnoxious. Since your comment followed immediately after one saying that 1366x768 "looks terrible" I looked up the screen resolution. Since it wasn't listed prominently I thought I'd post the info to save other people thinking it was a better screen. No, I wasn't "having a laugh", thank you.

this laptop is MEH in all areas
8GB ram is alright but low res, slow drive, old cpu, integrated graphics.... 350 is a lot to spend on MEH
#33
I have one of these for work.
Don't. Thinkpads are for business users who just need some businessy looking laptop. I'd rather have a HP or something much better built. It feels like a 2000 era laptop rather than a modern day ultra book.
#34
You would have to pay me £20 to put McAfee on any computer of mine, even then I think i'd pass.

Lenovo laptop keyboards are horrid to use, they've shortened the right hand shift key and squished the arrow keys in so that every time I try to use the RHShift I end up typing on the line above.

For the antivirus and internet security i use Kaspersky. You can buy it in Amazon for £10, excellent support and not much cpu intensive. For notebooks and all McAfee eats lot of CPU.

Because the speed advantage is huge. They run silently as well, so my laptop doesn't make a sound.

Also, I don't think storage is the issue it was five years ago. I used to need lots of storage space for music, films and other media. Between Spotify/Netflix/cloud storage, they've eliminated the need for big storage capacity for most people now, me included.
