A great spec ION powered 12" Netbook. Perfect for those that need a compact light weight unit that can play HD video.

The black one in there sale section can be had for £220 with a 250GB HDD. This for an extra £10 has a 320GB HDD, a much better buy IMO.

White
Intel Atom N270 Processor
12.1" LED Screen
Windows 7 Home Premium (Not the nasty Windows 7 Starter that is normally pre installed on Netbooks)
2GB RAM

To be honest, I really don't see why this merits another deal. It's a great netbook though.
#5
Has full version of Windows 7 Home Premium, unlike the Starter Edition that comes on most netbooks (never actually used the Starter edition myself, not sure how it is limited -- heard you can only open a few applications at the same time etc. but if you want to be 100% sure then Google is your best friend).

The other deal is for the Black 250GB version, I though it would be good to alert people of the White 320GB version with a deal.

I will add that to the description, thanks.

Seems like a excellent deal

Im typing on one now, bought it from there around a month or so ago for the same price. Cracking netbook, especially for HDMI output! Can get abit slow when having loads of tabs open due to the crap processor i believe. However for its size, awesome bit of kit!

How does this compare in build quality and spec to a Samsung NC-130

Build quality about the same, the Samsung might have the edge slightly. In spec the Lenovo destroys the Samsung. Twice the RAM, bigger Hard Drive, bigger screen, a proper graphics chip, the list goes on.

You are a wag; well I presume you are joking!
The TDP is 2.5W which is closer to that of a CPU in a phone than that in a typical laptop.

The Starter Edition isn’t limited in the particular way you suggested although there were rumours before it was released that it would be.
It does have some silly limitations like they removed the Snipping Tool.

Got the black one last week, dual booting Ubuntu 10.10 & Windows 7, runs awesome for me :)

Plays 1080p very smooth :D
#20
Great price for this, considered it last week but went for the Dell 11z at the same price as it has a better processor and is a bit lighter/ more compact. Chose the free delivery option and it arrived the next day!

Am also typing on the very model as we speak. Delighted with it after buying it around a month ago. CPU aint super fast but it does the job well enough. Plays Blu-Ray films comfortably (when you install the right codecs) and i can even play Football Manager 2011 on it, which is pretty damn good for a netbook. HDMI out also allows me to stream premier league matches through the 40 inch LCD downstairs which is awesome. Even refurbs around this price cannot compete with this spec of machine, plus its looks as slick as an Italian fisherman!

daft question does this have a cd drive?
#23
how hard/easy is installing ubuntu to work with Win 7? was going to do it on my laptop but some of the install help guides i found were a bit dated i.e. for ubuntu 9 & 10

cheers

It's very easy to be honest, I can give you a few links to some up to date guides if you like? ;)

Dual Boot Windows 7 & Ubuntu

This is for Ubuntu 9.10 but works the same for 10.10, just choose "side by side" if you don't want to mess with partitions etc.

Use the Windows Bootloader to dual-boot Windows Vista and Ubuntu

And this is for replacing Grub2 with the Windows Bootloader which is what I myself have done so if you decide to remove Ubuntu it's a simple case of just deleting that partition and expanding the windows one back to it :)

No it doesn't. It was the Intel chipset that used all the power. These machines are different as they have the Nvidia chipset.

no

Does anyone know how well this compares to the Dell 11z (roughly the same price - Celeron processor and non-Ion chipset)?

Here's a rundown of the differences between Home Premium and Starter Edition.

You had me worried for a mo, but looking at the differences, the wife's not going to notice the missing bits I don't think, so her netbook with Starter on it is OK. (yhe 3 app rule is removed now afaik):

Better at what?

The Lenova Ideapad S12 with ION graphics is much better speedwise at HD video and can smoothly run 1080p video, although at 1280x800 it only has the resolution for to display 720p (you can output to a monitor though). Still, nice resolution for a 12" screen and will look great. You could play games better than the Dell.

The Dell Inspiron has better resolution 1366x768 so will look sharper than 16" laptops, but the graphics card is significantly slower than the Lenova. It will still do 720p though according to reviews, and maybe 1080p. On the other hand, the ULV 743 (Celeron) is a faster CPU than the Atom N270, so general tasks will be better on the Dell.

It depends on what you'd want to do with them. Battery life seems similar, but you'd want to read reviews and check out other stuff as well such as connectivity, ports, etc.

before you buy check the sound volume and webcam microphone. I had 2 lenovo laptops last year and both had poor quality speakers/mics.
#37
I've ordered this, hope its decent enough, heading off to Asia in a few weeks and just need something for web, photos and itunes. 12" screen is what sold me
#38
I've ordered one. Collecting from store tomorrow. Returned a HP netbook I bought in the Tesco sale for this :D
#39
Mine has just arrived! Next day delivery, even though I went for there basic delivery :)

Looks gorgeous in White. I've left it to charge for a bit first, will post my opinions when I've had chance to use it.

Both the Black and the White models have been cheaper, if I recall correctly over the festive period the black was £199 and the White £229.
The Atom processor in these is old technology and for that reason they should both be sub £200 IMO, for not much more money there are far better offerings out there
