Other good thing about Lenovos is that you get an XP disk as weel so if you don't like Vista you can downgrade back to XP. Also IBM do all teh drivers for XP.

Damn good price for a quality laptop. Decent processor, big disk, hdmi, what more do you want for £338. Hot

Guys, this is Lenovo N500 and has nothing to do with Lenovo ThinkPads.Althought the offer is ok,quality is good but ...do not exaggerrate

Battery is extremely poor 2400mah = approx 1h with WiFi on unless they made mistake.

Will NOT come with XP - this is Vista Premium, without free downgrade option to XP

How rare... the voice of reality! :-)

It might not be a thinkpad, but it's also cheaper than them.

It's IBM, still reliable and rock solid, and over £100 cheaper than direct from IBM.

If you can't afford a thinkpad, but still want their reliability then these are a good choice imo.
#9
And much better value than a ThinkPad!

Seems to be the same spec, but a little more expensive and now expired.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I just ordered this exact laptop, two days ago from dabs.com and paid £355, not fair!

As far as I remember, IBM does not make ANY PCs anymore... All IBM laptops and PCs are actually Lenovo. IBM only sells servers and workstations.

Bought one a couple of weeks ago for £343 including delivery from ebuyer. Comes with Vista Home Premium pre-installed. There are NO discs with it - the software is on a partition on the hard drive. There is a utility included on the partition to create discs of all the software then delete the partition automatically. Does everything my now disposed of desktop did for a much smaller footprint. It's a nice machine, good keyboard etc and good networking. If anyone gets one and the mousepad doesn't work there is a touch sensitive button to the top right of the keyboard to disable/enable the pad. It's set to disabled by default when you get it.

very true, ibm have sold the laptop business long back to lenevo..they are now only in high end servers like blade server, z series etc
Still this is a very good spec for 338

Not on this model -only some Lenovo Vista Business models have XP CDs supplied.

In fact Microsoft allows any Vista Business installation to downgrade to XP Pro - whether you have the XP media to install is another matter - either the PC supplier gave you a set (as Lenovo does on certain models only) or you may use a legitimate XP Pro CD as supplied for another machine - then you have to find your own machine soecific drivers yourself.

Re the battery comment.... Out of interest I got the Lenovo N200 about 4 months ago and I was also dubious about the claim of 3.8 hours on the battery, but so far *touch wood* the battery does last for the time stated and I have in fact had it run fractionally over the 4 hour mark (mine has wifi permanently left on).

I love my lenovo and would highly recommend it to everyone!

I posted a deal on this laptop a few weeks back when it was on Misco. After quidco it worked out at around £332, but Misco no longer have the laptop on sale. I purchased the laptop then & have been using it daily for those few weeks & am typing this now on it.

Regarding the battery comment "extremely poor" is not exactly true. I regularly run the laptop mainly for use on the internet & easily get around 2.5 hours out of it with wifi on. Even when I'm gaming I get an hour to an hour and a half depending on the game.

The laptop does NOT come with XP, its Vista Home Premium & as somebody else commented before you get a seperate partition on the HDD which contains the initial install DVD which can be burnt to disc & then the space freed up.

I work in IT & have had more laptops than most probably have (varying from Acers to Dells to HPs to Toshibas etc). Out of the box this is by far the best performance per £ laptop I have ever bought.

If anybody is considering this laptop to purchase then I say go for it before it's too late. As always with ebuyer as soon as more of these laptops sell they'll jack the price up. You'll kick yourself if you miss out. Deal voted hot.

I bought one a couple weeks ago for £350 and I'm very happy with it. Bought to replace the 3000 N100 I had for a couple of years which was also excellent. Great value. Good point about activating the mousepad - this is disabled out of the box - the button is one of the touchpads on the top right - thanks to the posters who warned of this, I would have been tearing my hair out otherwise.
#19
Can the memory be upgraded in this?

shame it doesnt have a core2 cpu:( good price tho.

It is in the manual, & it's quite easy to tell whether the touchpad has been disabled as the blue light between the mouse buttons lights up. I find it really handy as I do a lot of typing & it's handy not to have the pointer jumping around the screen.

Yes. Although there are 2 memory slots which are taken up by 2 x 1GB sticks of RAM. So if you wanted 4GB you would have to purchase 2 x 2GB sticks & then either re-use the 1GB sticks in another laptop if you have one with spare slots that are compatible, or try & sell them on ebay for a few quid.

So if the battery is ok, it cannot be 2400mAh

So if the battery is ok, it cannot be 2400mAh. ????? why not ?????
#24
I can confirm the battery IS 2400mah

I've been on the internet all morning since about 10.30 & the battery is still showing 1h 05 mins (33%) left.
#25
can someone explain this bundle which is an extra on this laptop

http://www.ebuyer.com/bundle/KB8XMBA65

does this mean i can't upgrade the laptop without this or is this an upgrade to the memory
#26
totomomo
has this gone up??????

Still showing as £338.99 on the ebuyer site.
#27
O & my battery is now showing 21 mins (11%) left...so I have had over 3 hours of internet surfing on battery only this morning.
#28
I've got one of these, the battery is good for 3 hours of wireless internet browsing. The build quality is really good better than the Dell Latitude D series which I also use on a regular basis.

Has anyone installed XP on one of these?
#29
Just Ordered one for my Wife... A very good machine indeed... we will primarily use it for internet browsing..... leaps better than a netbook...

This is the cheapest branded laptop I have found so far... around $700 in USA... a fair deal.
#30
Better Laptop and better deal than the Sony posted elsewhere. Hot.
#31
I've just taken the plunge and ordered one of these for delivery tomorrow.
#32
Mine arrived this AM..
Nice lookin machine, i also like the little scroll bit on the touch pad to help with scrolling down the page.
battery says 88% 3hr 33min
#33

#34
Damn, been looking for a decent laptop for awhile now... a bit annoyed i missed this!!
