Have some heat as this seems a really good price for the specs...

What is the code you need to get this for £249.99
#3
wow brilliant price, that'll run fedora very nicely, have some heat :D
#4
I have the L series - very good keyboard and not sure if this one would be also spill proof? Solid build quality that wouldn't be found in the competition at this price I would say. Heat.
#5
Most of the sellers are selling thi smodel in 270£ so it's not that hot.

THINKPAD is the code.

Nice price, set up a few of these at work and they all still work well despite the abuse. Not pretty but functional and hard wearing.

Heat added.

It's still £20, I can get drunk on that so it's hot enough for me!

This seems to be great value, is there anything better for under £300 ?
#9
3GB version here for only £10 extra.

Unfortunately the discount code doesn't work on this model.

I have an Acer notebook with Dual Core T3400 and 3GB - and it's always banging on 100% CPU. Everything takes twice as long to run as on my desktop with Core 2 Duo E5400. Don'y know if all these Dual Core ones are as rubbishy as mine?

Sounds like something is wrong with your laptop..Norton or McAfee antivirus maybe?
Or just too much crap installed and loading at startup..clean install needed.

Very hot offer, ordered one! thanks :)

can anyone advise if this would be a much better buy than the emachines AMD V140 processor laptop available from Asda for 197 pounds?? Although expired, its still available in quite a few stores.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I would always buy a Lenovo over an emachines laptop, even if the spec was lower because it'll last longer and if you have any problems it's much easier to get drivers etc from the Lenovo web site. I think it's a slightly false economy buying the cheaper emachines laptop.

Of course this depends how much you are going to use it, if very rarely then the emachines will probably do the job. Now that I've said all that you'll go buy the Lenovo and it'll fall apart 15 minutes after opening the box no doubt ;)

Of all the makes of laptop we have at work the Lenovo's are always the easiest to set up and give the least trouble. Saying that I am typing this on my old cheap Acer I bought for home web surfing and it's still going strong despite their reputation so you never can tell.
(I'm still looking for a new laptop but that's because I'm a geek and like my gadgets)

Thanks for your response, its very helpful.

In terms of use, will be used for abt 4-5 hrs daily mainly office applications and web surfing, so not demanding tasks at all. I just need something that will last, but like you say, difficult to predict.
this lenovo is 50 pounds more expensive but a couple of additional features such as 320g hard drive as opposed to the emachines 160g as well as the webcam which the emachines lacks.

Is this a more powerful processor than the AMD V140?

Well according to cpubenchmark.net the Lenovo one is better

Intel rating of 1551
AMD rating of only 683

Thanks, I think that may just clinch it for me.

I think this deal is quite good and I am considering going for it as it ticks all but one box (3GB RAM+) so I was wondering what RAM configuration this has. I know it has 2 slots and takes upto 8GB but will it arrive with 2x 1GB or 1 x 2GB?
#21
This is a great deal. Excellent build quality and good spec for a pittance! HOT
#22
Ordered for £249. Will be my fourth IBM/Lenovo - and the cheapest yet! Gotta love the IBM keyboard!

I did send my third Lenovo back a couple of months ago - a Thinkpad Edge i5, ordered direct from Lenovo. Shoddy keyboard would not register all key presses. Paid 490 for that. Would sooner stick to the classic design for half the price, thank you very much! Such a shame that they are diluting the original IBM design with each new generation!

Side note for anyone unhappy with 2GB RAM; Crucial are doing 8GB RAM for £69, or 4GB for £35 - or if you're that skint - 2GB for £18. Could help offset the difference between this and an i3 processor.
#23
I ordered this model a week ago for £289 from Save On Laptops and I'm really, really happy with it. Fantastic build quality and keyboard for the price, and it includes a protection system for the hard drive if you drop it - again very rare feature at this price. For £249 this really is a huge bargain, wish I'd held off now but didn't think the price could drop any lower!

BOILING hot!

Ordered one...
Looking forward to a new machine....

hopefully they don't do an Asda and phone me up and say we're sorry but we've none left.................. I still 8 Asda for doing that....

"Another reason for the low score is that Lenovo has scrimped on memory, providing a meagre 2GB of RAM. There's little point in upgrading to 4GB of RAM as the 32-bit version of Windows 7 Professional is installed, which can use only around 3GB. The Intel GMA 4500M HD on-board graphics can't handle 3D games, but can output High Definition video via the HDMI port if you want to connect an HD TV or projector."

Heat by the way.

Incorrect this model comes with 64bit.. so it is worth upgrading...(_;)
And the Hard Drive is bigger, slight upgrades that have made it more worth while
By the way does anyone know what RAM cofiguration it comes with???

So 2x 1GB or 1 x 2GB?

It's seems a shame to put an HDMI port on something which isn't capable of transmitting HD video. I think that is somethink I am prepared to overlook mind. As I said it ticks boxes in every other area. I can get a 2GB RAM module for around a tenner so if it already has a single dimm installed this would be great.
#31
Well worth it....

The service and support section for Lenovo is great.

Looks like the RAM and even the CPU is easy to replace on theses.

has anybody found out if ram is 2 x 1 or 1 x 2

Pretty good specs for the price (cheaper than many atom netbooks, and much faster and more capable).

Seems a bargain for a decent laptop
