Do not buy if you intend to game on this laptop, the GPU is little better than Intel's integrated graphics your better off getting an I7 with no discrete graphics at this price point. to give you an idea of performance i have linked the benchmarks for Thief for the uninitiated 30 fps (frames per second) is the bare minimum to play games below this the game will be choppy and unplayable.

Thief 2014 low 1024x76819.1 20.8 ~ 20 fps med. 1366x76812 13.2 ~ 13 fps high 1366x7689.9 11.2 ~ 11 fps

Poorly reviewed machine and the ancient GF117 chip (originally the 420M) that's a worse option that integrated graphics unless you need an nVidia specific feature (Particularly the HD5000 and Iris 5100 that's now appearing in this price range).

Cold from me, save yourself £100 and get the HP Pavillion 15 with i5-4288U.

Also misleading description. In don't believe this has a 1tb Solid state drive at all. Might be a hybrid, but not 1tb all SSHD.

It does state 1TB SSHD - and it says it on their website. Why is this mis-leading?

The description correctly states it has a 1tb sshd. Which translates to Solid State Hybrid Drive. It doesn't say it has a 1tb SSD.

Spend an extra £50 and get this one from John Lewis. Much better deal and 2 year warranty ;)

This is technically better as well - i7 and not i5.

The price of a 1tb SSD would equal the price of this laptop!

I'm getting the John Lewis one, is there anything better at that price? I can't find it

Got the i7 z50-70 with 4gb 840m graphics from Very with 12m BNPL. Had a £25 off voucher, about £5 topcashback and had £100 credit applied to my very account last month. Finally got confirmation of cashback from Lenovo so it's actually cost me less than £400.
Couldn't post deal as Very were banned at the time although I mentioned it in other threads. Subsequently found out I could have put it in miscellaneous, but it was too late.

Do u have the link?

Just checked and very are no longer selling it. Just got lucky as I was concerned the Lenovo cashback wouldn't pay or the £100 credit to my very account wouldn't appear.
Now breathing a sigh of relief.

The i7 on the Lenovo is the low end i7, meaning its the most powerful dual core intel have for laptops.
Everything else is kinda simpler........lenovo have more gpu ram, which wont make a difference.

I would say Lenovo, as its generally better than HP and its from John Lewis, though its heavier, not sure about battery life.

One issue for you is getting used to Windows 8.1 as neither have touch screen,

Thank you for your insight :) I was going to buy the Lenovo from John Lewis but will hold a little while longer as I don't really want to be spending more than £500 on a laptop :/

The price of a 1tb SSD would equal the price of this laptop!

SSD = Solid State Drive
SSHD = Solid State Hybrid Drive

SSHD is a normal HDD with a Solid State component for regularly used files - not as expensive as SSDs.
