The amd's are more designed for gaming but still also a fantastic all rounder and a great choice for the price!

Agreed. Where can I find one? Argos doesn't sell a laptop that matches that description.

I don't think so. More like an i3. Advantage might be for games. Slightly.

The A10 is not bad, assuming its an A10-7300 https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+A10-7300+APU
Laptops from £300 should have SSDs now.

At this price point it's completely expected to have a non-ssd hard drive. Also your ssd tends to be much less capacity and in reality, cloud services are not a simple prospect so aren't a good alternative to large drives for many people.

The a10 apparently has a decent on board GPU and I suspect the high memory count is for shared memory with the GPU. Like I said AMD machines tend to gaming a bit more so that would make sense.

I disagree. e.g.
£324 https://www.technoworld.com/hp-250-g5-i3-5005u-15-6-4gb-256-ssd-win-10
This is FHD and with 256GB SSD which should suit non-gamers (laptops not really for gamers at this price point); I agree for media 256GB may be a bit limiting; 2 options a. external caddy or b. buy a large HDD laptop, slightly cheaper, and spend £40 on an SSD.

Rather old model - CPU now two generations behind, DDR3 rather than DDR4 (will make memory upgrades later more expensive), and only 4GB RAM. So you're compromising in other areas to get an SSD.

16gb ram seems a bit much on a device like this?

Agreed. My laptop overheats so much that it affects my sound card. And that's an AMD chipset. Would go Intel all day everyday from now on.

So which is better? this AMD or the Acer Aspire E5 i5 with 8gb ram for £399 from Argos? they both have 1366x768 screens

It depends what you want it for. If you want it mostly for 3D gaming then this one. Otherwise definitely the i5

some.of them were hot (as some intels too). This is ulv cpu with 19w tdp, won't overheat. i have got two laprops with amd onboard ( hp probook upgraded to a10-5750m and lenovo z50 with fx 7500) , both laptops perform well and cause no issues.
