Great film, it's about time blu rays started getting enarer DVD prices :)
#5
fantastic movie. This is hot.

The theatrical release is one of my all time faves and makes Taken look like In The Night Garden.

The extended version is very weird and frankly rather creepy with a lot more of Natalie Portman as Lolita...

Buy, Buy, Buy!!! have some heat..
#8
That's what joe public wants.
#9

The extended version makes it an almost different movie, something akin to the extended version of The Abyss. The focus is less on the action and more on the relationship between Reno and Portman. I wouldn't say it's creepy, perhaps it is uncomfortable at times though.

Fantastic offer - I hope to pick a copy up as this is a very good movie and I only have the R1 DVD at the moment.

One of my favourite films, having owned the VHS on original release, then DVD, then uncut R1 DVD and now Blu ray. Personally, I dont like the uncut version, and now only watch the theatrical release - at least the Blu Ray gives you the option.

Great deal, I already have it, well worth the money.

Totally agree, loved the film initially. Watched the extended version,me and OH got too freaked out by the Lolita connection and sold it lol! We couldn't remember it being overtly sexual the first time round. Might buy it again, but never watch that edition lol.

I wouldn't say it was "creepy" - if Leon ever took advantage of Mathilda it would be different, but he makes it quite clear he isn't interested.
Yes, watching Mathilda flirt with him is sometimes uncomfortable to watch - but it would only be creepy if it were the other way round. It just demonstrates her desperation to keep him.

I've not yet dipped into bluray, do older movies generally transfer well? When dvd came out there were some ropey transfers.:(

this is an amazing film!! most people i know already think the theatrical release is about a paedo!! i havent seen the other version,i can only imagine what they'd make of it!! very narrow minds!
#26
Not available in 3 different Morrisons I tried, can anyone claim to have actually seen it for this price rather than just saying how good the film is?

it's all about the source, really - earlier blurays used a crappy form of MPEG2 compression, which resulted in a pretty dire picture in some cases (Robocop, T2 - I'm looking at you here)

but as the tech has 'evolved' and moved onto predominantly AVCHD, we are seeing most releases looking better.

of course, it'd down to which master studios use for transfers too - i'd usually suggest checking out reviews on highdefdigest.com or other HD review sites if buying online - not always that helpful when it comes to an instore impulse buy though ;)

annoyingly, some films have different transfers depending on which region they are, so always make sure you're checking out the correct release. Escape From New York's UK/EU release is absolutely shocking compared to the version you can pick up in the States.

And DVDbeaver.com. If an older film was made on 35mm then the blu should be stunning, check out Dambusters or the Third Man. Unfortunately some companies will release tat so they can reissue a better version further down the line and double their profit so be aware of reviews as mentioned above. There is no good reason for a poor blu release, just the industry swindling customers and risking blu-ray as a technology.

Not in my Morrissons, but This Is England is a fiver. Hot if you can get it 8)

Not in my morrisons. None of the recent bluray deals have been, in fact the cheapest Bluray they have is 16.99 - Walked away laughing!

So... the only one to have actually seen this for £5 has been a member for 2 hours. 700 degrees of heat and without anyone with any record of reputation having seen it for the price posted... amazing.
