Jean Reno (Mission: Impossible, Ronin, The Crimson Rivers), Gary Oldman (Sid And Nancy, Romeo Is Bleeding, The Dark Knight), Danny Aillo (Fingers, Do The Right Thing, A Brooklyn State Of Mind) and Natalie Portman (V For Vendetta, Goya's Ghost, Mars Attacks) in her film debut, all star in this highly influential, seminal 90s action/thriller.

Directed by Luc Besson (Subway, The Big Blue, Nikita, The Fifth Element), Leon is the controversial and unforgettable story of an unlikely friendship within a brutal and violent world. Twelve-year-old Mathilda lives within the desperate confines of a squalid New York apartment block. On returning from a shopping trip Mathilda finds that her abusive, dysfunctional family (and her beloved younger brother) have been slaughtered by a psychotic, drug dealing police officer. In fear of her life she takes refuge with her reluctant, mysterious and solitary neighbour. His name is Leon and he's one of the world's deadliest assassins. And while Mathilda begins to teach him how to live, Leon begins to teach her how to kill.

Always worth reading up on Blu-ray transfers before buying..

Blu-ray review

However, if you already own the disc on DVD, then the decision whether to upgrade is not as clear cut as it might have been. The AV on this disc is solid without being spectacular, and the advantages over upscaling DVD are not as massive as you might expect. However, the presence of both versions of the film on one disc, and the extras that have been created exclusively for this version are probably just about enough to make it a recommended upgrade.

incredible movie!!! as far as i can tell from reviews it's got two versions on one disc, one being the directors cut which is 24 mins longer!! luc besson actually calls the released version the directors cut, calls the other the longer version, cant wait to see the longer version! some people complaining about graininess in the pic quality!while others are saying this is a good thing,

I have the original dvd copy (I think its quite rare as it was deleted a long time ago) and the copy of that is very poor (to the point of that it doesn't fill the full screen) so any improvement on that is a bonus... if you compare the directors cut version dvd to the blu there is probably less comparason but for £1.95 (dvd is £5) its worth future proofing yourself.

Thanks, another one sold to the man with the large credit card bill.

I've seen the "longer version" and it's not a creepy as I thought it could have been. Just generaly better. Both versions on the disc and some more extras, all good.

Ooooh, just noticed it's 2 for £18....... If anyone want's to pay £2.05 more I'll split an order with you!

Agreed, I have this version on Japanese import DVD and the extra scenes improve it dramatically, as you see her going out on missions with him etc

God knows, its an an awful oven!

Terrific, been waiting for a good price like this. I rented this a couple of months ago and I thought it was superb. I think the picture quality is underrated too. Has a much better look to it than Ghostbusters does.

H+R.

Not to be confused with.....

Leon the Pig Farmer

This has tempted me. But I didn't like the PQ on this disk. I prefer the original shorter version as the directors cut goes on for a long time. I don't think I'll buy. I think it's best to stick with the dvd version if you already own it. If you don't, then go for this. Amazing price though.

I have the US dvd and the missions are great scenes. The theatrical cut thoough hints at things like Leon's past but the extended version explains it more. In this case i prefer the theatrical version. Less said the better, leave something a mystery.

I guess you read into it what you want, I didn't see it that way. A lot more innocent than that.
