Same price at HMV and 4p cheaper at The Hut and Zavvi

This isn't really a deal, is it? (_;)

This is kind of the standard price atm, and Zavvi have it for 4 pence cheaper at Zavvi as SugarRay says

Anyway, those who have seen this, how good it it?

if you didn't know, it's a remake of "let the right one in"...
they're pretty different though where the original is more of a mood piece about a child being lonely who happens to befriend a vampire, whereas the new one is full on hammer horror.. litterally.. it's made by hammer :)
Mark Kermode said he hated everything about the new one as there was no subtlety, but when i saw the remake in the cinema (having only seen the original on dvd) I absolutely shat myself as it's very dark and scary, particularly surprising as it's only a 15!

I wouldn't count this as a deal though to be honest as you can grab the original for a fiver quite easily and given a couple of months this one will be too.

depends if you like subtitles too obviously, as the original is foreign :)

They were raving about this on Film 2010 so might be worth a look when it comes down a bit.

Looking forward to seeing this, absolutely loved the original but am intrigued to see how well it will work as a straight up horror, plus it's the return of Hammer.
#6
I haven't seen the original and don't know if I should
#7
most reviews have been rave reviews, but read reviews carefully as to whether you want the original or the new one :)

btw - it's not a hot deal really, but not voted :)
#8
so the original is more emotional, etc whilst the new one is basically just supposed to be a horror?

I'm confused!!!!!!!1
#9
sorry to confuse things Kazaam :)

the emotion is still there in the new one, but the horror is ramped up 10 fold.

The original is a little slow, but most people see that as it's charm... wow i can't believe i typed that.

maybe i prefered the new one because it was at the cinema and i saw the original on a small tv... you'd be best going through proper reviews.
The only massive negative review was Mark Kermode though, who had it in his worst of 2010 list due to the fact it was "pointless..."

Loved the original film and the book too so will definetly be getting this :)
It's interesting as the book is very much the tender story displayed in the Norwegian film, but is also very much darker, violent and more frightening. Hopefully some of that horror is displayed in the new film (I missed it at the cinema so have to wait for the Bluray release!)

I'm waiting for the original on bluray, but im getting 2 copies cos of a mixup, and them im gna get the remake if i like it.

Do u guys think its worth buying both or just one?

I've the bias that I saw the new one on the big screen and loved it, but like Mark Kermode says, it's a pointless remake when the original was so tender (BraveSirRobin quote there too).

This isn't a massive saving anyway, but if you have the original, watch it, and wait until the remake is a few quid cheaper if you have fond memories in a while :)

here's a URL with a comparison for both anyway
Spoilers within obviously
