The write speed and heat generated are the big issues especially with 128GB and so small to dissipate heat generated ... does this get red hot like the small sandisk USB3 sticks

Write speeds faster for the S75, but obviously at the cost of the device footprint.

It sticks out (a lot) more.

The S45 has been £24.99 for a while, I picked one up a month ago when TCB had their £5 extra cashback offer on.

Anyone know if this will be as good or better for use as additional storage space on a Raspberry Pi? I know most would recommend a portable HDD but the more things I have sticking out of it the less reason to use a mini sbc...

Not quite. I setup Wireless AP, DHCP and NAT on it. Then installed Samba so I can kind of use it as AP and NAS when I am not home.

Upgrade the SSD on the laptop sounded like a better option (but might cost a lot more :( )

Would this be big enough to create 2 clean recovery backups from 2 windows 10 machines?

If memory serves, the USB 3.0 Lexars do not get excessively hot but worth confirming.
