Have you run any of the SD card speed test apps on this? Interested to know what speed a class 4 card reports given that my class 2 "appears" to be significantly faster than 2MB/s ... at the moment I'm not certain if I've got a fast card or, more likely, on a speed test all cards appear faster than their minimum speed!

I ordered this one, but it says "awaiting stock" when you checkout, so I cancelled it and ordered the Lexar in this deal.

Know how you feel. I would say the stuff I have bought off these pages, 90% I didn't need, and could have quite happily done without.

which brand is better? Lexar or PNY?
#15
Bought this yesterday for this price... Was going to buy the PNY for the same price but 4-5 days delivery. Also, reviews seem very mixed on the actual class (2/4) and speeds that people are getting on the PNY (the people reviewing saying they had class4 seem to be slower than the people that got class2).

There is only 1 review for the Lexar at the moment and speeds seem nice for a class 4. Best cheapest microSD cards out there at the moment.

Can anyone confirm/test this card for dropped frames when doing 720p recording form a Desire HD or Galaxy S?

I guess it's that this site is heavily populated with people who like bargains, and the Orange San Francisco is an amazing bargain - for under £100 you get all the goodies you'd expect (800x480 capacitive touch-screen, GPS, compass, wifi, Bluetooth, FM radio, adequate though not brilliant camera) plus it's unlockable free and trivially, and easy to upgrade the ROM. It not only reveals just how much you have to pay to get the dubious benefits of an iPhone, but makes you wonder why a lot of other Android phones cost so much.

I bought the San Francisco recently, it's pretty rubbish as a phone, well actually it's very rubbish as a phone, as a smartphone (apps, gps etc) it's great. I didn't really need the phone and wish I'd saved £89. I have a decent rom on it and unlocked it etc, just didn't need it, I won't sell it though as every man and his dog has one so the resale value is woeful :P Bluetooth and FM Radio are bog standard features on many phones btw.

Anyway back to this deal, it's decent, cheers op.

Of course Bluetooth and FM Radio are bog standard on many phones - I was trying to avoid the "doesn't it have Bluetooth and FM Radio?" question. You can't argue that the display is bog standard on a phone anything like that price though.

A simple internet search will confirm that the HTC Desire is capable of supporting 16GB cards.

Of course it will - the class simply refers to the writing speed, with higher being better.

The different classes are about speed, so there will be no compatibility problems with any device which can handle a class 2. All the people buying this instead of a class 2, there probably isn't much point, most 720p video recording phones come with class 2 cards so the only difference you will really see is transferring stuff around, but file transfer or anything around 1GB is so fast anyway, I see no reason to pay more to just cut out a few seconds. Although I did buy the class 4 which was on amazon a while ago :P.

Thanks for the info bud. Sounds like a great little phone for the money. I'm rocking the Nexus S at the moment but thats due to getting a great price for my Desire recently. Like you mentioned it's got bang for buck and it's not the idrone. To me that's justification enough should I hear of someone wanting a new phone on a budget.

I own the phone and it's my opinion. I think it's rubbish as an actual phone, as in making calls, the interface is hopeless. As a smartphone is very good. There are plenty of sub £90 phones which are way better than the San Francisco at making and recieving calls. The San Fran is so loved on this forum it almost seems like sacrilege to speak against it. Since I actually own and use a San Fran I feel fully qualified to give an opinion about it. I own a Nokia 5230 too and it is better as a standard phone, much better, it is however nowhere near as good as the San Fran as a smart phone. Android is an inconsistent mess, it offers a lot of features all mashed up in to a disorganised mess.

Please explain why. It's baffling me. What exactly is "hopleless" about it? I'm really interested to know. Can its "hopeless" interface not be sorted out with an app? After all, if it's so clearly bad, there must be a lot of people who agree with you and someone will have been clever enough to fix it. As far as I know its interface is the standard Android one, so you're not criticising this phone at all - you're criticising Android.
There are plenty of sub £90 phones which are way better than the San Francisco at making t and recieving calls.
It's baffling me even more that it's rubbish at receiving calls! Just like with any other phone, you answer the call and you talk. How can it be worse?

Maybe you think that because you often make unsubstantiated criticisms of it? Perhaps if you bothered to elucidate you'd get a better reception? People would have a chance to understand what you're getting at, rather than thinking you're just here for a rant.

Hes right about using it as a phone-its gash.
Im thinking of changing my name to Hello? HELLO???? or possibly ARE YOU THERE??????????? as thats what everyone I phone on my SF calls me but at the same time I run an Ebay empire since I lost my job and its amazing as the interweb.

Smartphones in general are not regarded as the best phone devices. The IDrone often gets criticised as a poor phone. Anything that it multi purpose and not dedicated to a particular function is unlikely to be as good as something designed for a specific particular task.
I have used a San Fran, and its as good as anything out there (I use a Desire) and would prefer this to an iPhone even if price wasn't a factor. Android rocks! Much more customisable than iOS, less locked down and improving all the time.

Oh, great deal by the way ;-)

Thank you - finally a reason is given for it perhaps not being so good. I haven't experienced that, but then I changed network when I changed phone, so a comparison with my old phone would be unfair. On the other hand, if you're saying that you can hear the other party better than they can hear you, then I really don't think I've had that problem - perhaps you have a faulty phone? Have you listened to yourself on the voice recorder?

Wasn't ranting just giving an opinion, the speakerphone is absolute rubbish, have lots of people complain when I use it, apparently a common fault. The phone doesn't have any physical buttons for answering or cancelling calls. It's entirely possible whilst in a call to lose the dialler and then to recover and cancel the call you have to go to the notification bar, pull it down, select the dialler to display it and then end the call. First time this happened to me I was already really beginning to hate the phone. Jellyfish rom (Im not using this one) apparently can cancel a call using the power button. The call quality isn't great. The Nokia 5230 that I still have is a lot better as a phone. The San Fran crap as a phone based on my experience. As a smartphone it does lots of nice stuff, I really like Google Sky Map and Garmin Mechanic. The contacts menu is rediculously hopeless on Android. 90% of the problem is Android, but this is an Android based phone. Android is a mess, this phone needs better call quality, physical buttons for making and recieving calls, and the speakerphone needs to work.

In essence I dislike Android, then again I dislike most Linux based stuff (including Ubuntu) as it's made by geeks and they don't have a clue about designing decent interfaces. I agree Android shows promise, I spend all day working with computers and configuring them, I just want a phone that works for its intended purpose, the fact I can customise this is great, but as stated Android is a mess and this phone does have inherent problems itself. For the money though there is nothing else out there like it, but you have to work for your money with the San Fran. Apple do have a clue about user interface design, (and so do Microsoft) I really dislike Apple's business model though, which is suck as much money out of the consumer, show utter contempt for your user base and make sure that you patronise them with marginally revised products every year at huge cost.

Thanks - that's really comprehensive! I haven't used the speakerphone but can well believe it could be bad, as that's a hardware issue. As for cancelling calls, presumably you mean when you're using speakerphone and have gone to something else so don't have the cancel button appearing as soon as you take the phone away from your ear? I'm using the Jellyfish ROM so will try the power button as a cancel button because it's quicker than waiting for the display to switch on after a normal call.

Order mine last Friday (18th March) so I thought it would be here by now. Anyone still waiting for theirs?
