Hot if only using the scanner function. As already mentioned refill cartridges are very expensive. If you only print occassionally, the ink will dry out.
#5
The link of spence gives a full set of refills for £17.99 + Delivery. Think for occasional home use then this is a good deal, esspecially with a scanner.

The printer will come with cartridges which are either smaller or half full. The link for a refill you gave is £21.95, which is 130% of the original price of the printer, makes no sense to buy this printer at all in my opinion.
#7
Cold from me due to ink prices, you may as well buy 10 printers!!!!

Epsom all the way for the cheaper cost of compatibles!

£22 with postage!

I have a canon ip3600 which is an amazing printer and has a big black tank and small photo black+3 colour tanks. Set of everything cost me £13.49 and 4 big black tanks cost me £14.49 from amazon, been over a year of quite heavy printing and haven't gone into the 4 black tanks yet! Although after printing nearly 1000 6x4's yellow is all that remains!

Cheaper alternative here.

I have a 4 yr old MP 760 and now need to buy a new print head. Costs £50 but worth it.

Yeah this one has a tendancy to be shot at the end of its first race as it becomes too expensive to stable!!!!!

Some of the comments here make me laugh :p

honestly, dont get a lexmark. my girlfriend has one and when trying to replace the ink for the first time the new cartridge is not recognised. (at £17 a refill they should dam well work)

apparently this is quite a comon problem. -
http://www.fixya.com/support/t4175593-lexmark_x5410_printer_will_not_recognize

basically spend a little more on the printer you are getting and it will last you, otherwise buy this and throw it away once you have used up the ink... these printers are a pain in the ASS!

soz cold from me.

Having a bad experience and not knowing how to fit ink doesn't make a deal bad :p

Seriously guys need to get a grip, this is a £17 printer+scanner delivered for free! no ones going to be trying to run their business from it.
#18
Are lexmark compatibles available?
#19
Normal for Lexmark. Reel you in with low initial price for printer and get their money from you many times over with expensive consumables.
Epson win every time on ink prices.
Even HP & Kodak have far lower running costs.
#20
I have a Lexmark all in one printer and the inks cost me an arm and a leg!!!

It's a bargain price for an all in one but in the long run the inks cost too much and dont last that long :(

I bought an Epson all in one on wednesday and the inks are a bargain 79p woohoo!! Epson all the way!!! :D

I have searched but havent found any :(

I tried to refill them and stick the sellotape to the chip trick but it didnt work :(
#22
Sorry, I really can’t see the point of buying a printer and then three months later, when the inks run out, being forced to pay extortionate prices just to keep it running. Like finding a nice new car for five grand, with a full tank of petrol, but forced to pay ten quid a litre when it’s empty.

Good price for a scanner, mind, but not cheap under any circumstances for a printer unless you intend to throw it away when the inks run out, which won’t be long because Lexmark fit small starter cartridges. Not green, and not sensible. Buy an Epson for a bit more and enjoy dirt cheap consumables.
#23
I used to work in a popular store that sells these. Massive amount of returns, the black comes out grey. The print quality is poor right out of the box. While it is a good price, it is a bad product.
#24
Lexmark never seem to get it right. Cold from me.
#25
Cold.

Sorry, it does seem like a great deal but the price of cartridges should be enough to make Lexmark give these away.
#26
On the other hand, I have thrown away two Epsons because the print heads got clogged. I'm sure that everyone has had a bad experience with one make or another.

Here is a response from aquestionnaire that I completed about my Lexmark printer and the exhorbitant ink costs:

Hi Jason,

We recently received your feedback in our survey. First, thanks for your feedback, we consider it extremely valuable. We use our customer’s feedback to drive improvements in our current and future products. I also hope that I can address your concerns.

I understand your view of the cost of ink. In comparison with the cost of the printer, it seems quite high. There really is a reason for that.

Virtually all printers are sold at a loss. The printer you purchased probably cost $25-$40 more than you paid to design, manufacture, market, and ship. We count on selling additional cartridges to break even and hopefully make a profit. If you balance out the total expenditures for the printer and ink, in comparison with the actual cost, the picture is much more reasonable. We continue to work on technology that can make ink less expensive.

Let me provide you some tips to help you get the most out of your ink investment.

We've created a number of XL cartridges that deliver significantly more pages than the standard yield. We follow the ISO standards for determining page yield. For your printer, the #23 is rated at 215 pages; the #24 is rated at 185 pages; the #34 and #35 are rated at 500 pages. While the high yield cartridges do cost a little more, they do contain considerably more ink at a lower cost per page. Look for this at your retailer and at http://www.Lexmark.com. Also, try the twin-pack which is sold at a discounted price.

In addition, for documents that don't require high quality, such as emails, directions, draft documents, etc., you can use the Quick Print option and use considerably less ink on that document. In the application you are printing from File -> Print -> Click on your printer -> Preferences or Properties -> Click Quick Print -> OK.

I hope this information has been helpful to you and that you are able to get the results you want and expect. However, if I can assist you in any other way, please feel free to contact me.

Thanks,

This is a poor deal. I wouldn't have one myself and if anyone gave me one I'd sell it quick.
@mdcdeve - just because something is cheap doesn't mean it's worth having ...if I found a deal offering wet dog turds at 19 pence a kilo would another deal offering them at 15 pence a kilo be hotter ???.....and please don't try and argue that it depends how fresh they are or what about delivery.

I bought the SX115 model from Tesco and it cost £38.99 which is a lil bit cheaper than Argos, Not sure its the cheapest price out there for that particular model but it does the job for me.

The inks are from http://www.buytech.co.uk, They have compatible inks for epson models that cost 79p
