Item title says SATA, description says IDE. I assume its IDE.

The lightscribe version is just £2 more too :)

good price just 2 days ago orderd the pioneer one for 15.99 oh well

Listing states its SATA, under features and descriptions it states the interface is IDE. Seems Play don't know much about PC's.

Which one is correct as one is hot, (SATA) the other is not (Old IDE) in my book.

I don't think LG are making DVD writers in SATA, onky IDE

Makes no difference at all, most motherboards still have an IDE connector, and will for a while, they even still have floppy connectors, so IDE won't be a problem

Where's a cheaper (new) ide? I'm after one.

Dell Optiplex 755 does not have IDE.

I am sure there are more like this.

Best to make sure before you order.

P-ATA

http://www.lge.com/products/model/detail/gh22lp20.jhtml

[edit]without the exact code from Play it makes it hard to say 100% which interface it will be (it looks like PATA/IDE from info on lg site) what I can say is I own one of the Samsung 22x drives and it is a waste of time @ 22x , burns are terrible quality. I had to try, I knew it would be bad but +R @22x is much much better than -R at same speed.

So if you want one to burn @22x waste of time in terms of time wise and quality, good price though for an 8x writer on TY or MCC

There is no mention on play.com of the model number of the dvd writer. If it is a SATA then great !

There are computers with SATA only motherboards and so buying an E-IDE drive is not ideal !

LG do produce both E-IDE and SATA dvd writers - so it would make sense for play.com to make a distinction.

If anyone can shed light on what the model number is - it would help.

Mine hasn't!

Looks like the LG GH22LP20 to me, so its IDE.
#14
They make 22x recorders now? :-D lol
#15
Any way to make this work with chipped xbox, without using two drives and open case? Noticed there's a nice easy interface for an lg(????), but that particular drive seems to have disapeared from the planet.
#16
Good stuff, am looking for a black IDE drive.
#17
Decided to buy
#18
Main title has changed to reflect IDE rather than SATA.

Personally I think the guy getting a Pioneer drive for the extra £2 has a better buy already.
#19
You can buy a SATA drive from Scan for £11.xx. It's 20x instead of 22x but it's a bit cheaper too. They also have a 22x drive for £13.xx so worth considering if you have the free scan deilvery on your account.
#20
nice deal
#21
Personally I went for the Pioneer DVR-216BK 20x Internal Black Bare SATA DVD+/-RW Drive / Black (PC Shop) as I have more faith in Pioneers than LG and for £2 its not worth worrying over :)

Yes, but they spin the discs at such speeds that they are prone to shattering in the drive.
#23
Had an LG drive before - was good and lasted a long time without any problems. So hot for me at this price.
#24
Ordered the lightscribe version.
IDE and SATA will be exactly the same speed with an optical drive so how can one be hot and one not?
They would both offer exactly the same performance with the only benefit being that sata is (slightly) easier to connect and set up
#25
Hi Guys

If i have a ond PC that uses IDE - is it possible install a SATA drive? is there some sort of adapter that an be used?

thanks!

SATA is easier to connect up as you say and it doesn't leave you with a huge ribbon cable in your PC which hurts airflow. Even with round IDE cables it's still a lot worse than a nice little SATA cable. For a few pounds extra I'd get a SATA drive if I didn't already have a Pioneer SATA DVDRW drive :)
#28
Anyone received theirs yet?
Ordered ages ago, my status is "order taken" which if you read the list down the side doesn't feature??
Anyone know what this means?
#29
Cancelled my order, i'm too impatient.
Went for the Samsung one from overclockers instead, only a couple of quid more

. . and found that my mobo doesn't support SATA optical drives. Should have stuck with the original hot deal lol
