Yes...why exactly is it rubbish? 1080p, 37" from a reputable brand (one of the big 3 manufacturers of LCD screens, Samsung, LG & Sharp) for under £400 from Tesco...so another good thing, since they're excellent for faults and returns (and they won't go bust)

I've read good reviews about the picture, - but not had much mention about the sound.
#14
Looks like a great deal, although I would like to know why its rubbish before I spend?
#15
Shame its not 100hz - would have gone for it otherwise

Nice find though
#16
Very nice deal. If I didn't need 42"+ I'd go for this

same here (was a bargain @ 600 from richer sounds)
the only downside ive come across is that when in standby it seems ANY button on any of my 10+ remotes will turn it back on.

reputable brand (one of the big 3 manufacturers of LCD screens, Samsung, LG & Sharp)

would you not say that sony is a bigger name than Sharp in the world of lcds nowadays
#19

A common misconception: Sony don't make their own panels, whereas LG, Samsung & Sharp do and then sell their panels onto other manufacturers as well as make their own lineup. Sharp invented LCD technology, so no I wouldn't say that Sony is a bigger name than Sharp when it comes to LCDs. Just like Panasonic are the experts when it comes to Plasma:thumbsup:

Cheap 1080p sets are notoriously bad for anything but computer monitors... but at this size it is utterly pointless....

Please read my post here i posted a while back....

http://www.avforums.com/forums/lcd-tv-should-i-buy/931311-best-32-lcd-tv-bedroom-500-a.html#post8803833

Basically 1080p is pointless unless thats all your watching or have a very large screen ( 46+ in size)

Ontop of that it is a 3 year old model LGs 2006 model infact, when it came out it was not the best television in the world, equally priced samsungs and sonys walked all over it at the time. LG have improved considerably over the last few years, however this was before the improvement.

Reasons why this set is bad Poor contrast ... meaning bad black levels and poor colours.
Bad motion blurring.... any movement on the set will result in a nice "trail" behind it due to the higher than normal response time.
Poor viewing angles, the viewing angle on new lcds is not great... on older ones it suffers quite badly....

Nice find though

Read the link i posted above.... 100hz is not needed and most of the time i find myself turning it off on my television. And for £380 you cant expect everything.... tbh i wouldn't even buy anything above a 32 for £380 let alone a 37".....

Pioneer happen to be the best plasma manufacturor in the world.... ashame they just stopped production.... there current televisions are by far the best on the market....

As far as using other peoples panels? Manufacturors mix and match panels even samsung, sharp and panasonic use panels from CMO and each other.... depends on the size and things like if they have enough panels of there own to satisfy demand... As an example samsung used cheaper panels in there 32" le32a457 sets aswell as there own, the result is a lottery of quality depending if you get a samsung panel or one of the cheaper sourced in ones....

However as far as LCD televisions go Sony probably make amongst the best LCDs at the moment alongside Panasonic and Samsung. Sharp unfortunately have not been up there in quality for the past few years which is ashame really....

However if someone says "branded" to me it usually means one of the following brands... however even branded sets are often bad depending on age and if its a budget set or not.

Sharp, Panasonic, Sony, Samsung, LG, Pioneer, Toshiba, Philips.

But you'd agree that out of the non-chinese made panels (which are generally thought to be of lesser quality), LG, Samsung & Sharp are the ones to look out for.

Aquous from Sharp is probably the best LCD range out on the market, and all the reputable manufacturers are slowly changing their supplies of panels from Samsung (the market leader) to Sharp, because Sharp make the best quality 37"+ panels - the new battleground.

It's only because I came across this article a while ago, plus I've always been fond of Sharp electronics - especially their LCD camcorders and TV's - they invented the technology...
http://www.moneymorning.com/2008/05/27/the-high-tech-view-new-ventures-have-sanyo-looking-sharp/

Sony don't make the best LCD sets no...they are just the market leader, as in people buy more of the bravia sets because of past brand recognition.
It's just to a casual observer, you goto Sharp for the best LCD's (unless like you said they're using a cheaper chinese-made panel) and you goto Panasonic for the best Plasma's. And then below them you have the other reputable brands.

Well it's much newer, but not full HD, not that that matters at 37" :)

hey guys,

Ive just noticed this tv does not have the headphone socket on (as advertised on the tesco site) - so i rung up and complained and got a further £20 off the order! - so i reccommend others do the same :)
