What is the point in a 4k TV at the moment? You're better off getting a normal HD TV at this price.

Mccirick, why would you recommend someone buys a hd tv at this price instead? That doesn't make much sense to me.

TV has v. avg reviews
Digital Versus
tl;dr version:- Basically v. good if you sit in front of it and the picture is not fast moving. Otherwise not.

the ps4 cant output 4k for games...not by a long shot...it can barely do 1080. might get this for my PC though....but then they keep falling in price so I might wait

The ps4 is capable of outputting 4k 30 Hz but not in capable of playing games at 4k but in the future stuff like netflix would be an option

READ the reviews, the AMAZON one is the German version, NOT UK COMPATABLE, NOT SMART

I expected that response, The reviews on Amazon are from any seller that sells that TV, them reviews are not exclusive to purchases made from Amazon directly.

the amazon reviews say its from germany so it comes with a 2 pin plug and not a uk 3 pin plug. its cheaper yes i would rather spend the bit extra and have a uk model tv with a 3 pin plug and a uk warranty.

The Amazon one states 1080, not 4k?

LG models that read LB are 1080p and those that read UB are 4k as a rule of thumb.

These things are dropping a lot lately! Was tempted but as its just for my room I've ordered a 39" 1080p for £150 instead:

no you can't. those are " mastered in 4k" discs. They are still 1080p

"4K Blu-ray" - nope, not yet. You might be thinking of the "Mastered in 4K" Blu-ray discs, which are still 1080p.

future proofing

Future proofing by buying one of the earliest 4K models before all of the standards have been put into place? You'll have to replace this set in a year or two.

IFn't have a problem with 4K TVs. I remember when everyone was saying the same about HD ready TVs, oh there's no HD content yet, this is years away blah blah blah. If you want a 4K, by all means go for it. It will become the next standard, unlike 3D TVs, which is a gimmick.

I'm looking to upgrade my 40" Sony bravia LCD from 2007 which cost me £1200 from John Lewis. Crazy price when you think about it compared to the prices now. Never fancied 3D and didn't think 'smart' would justify the cost for a new TV when I have TiVo and an Xbox 360.

I am interested in a new 4K set but thus far there are too many poor reviews for input lag or motion blur or do not have the specific streaming codec for netflix etc so will wait a bit longer to cover all avenues at an affordable price point

Future proofing?

By the time 4k ever gets anything close to mainstream (if it ever does), this TV will be a dinosaur.

And in a 40" UHD is kind of pointless unless you sit right in front of the screen or use it as monitor (but not for gaming .... it's too slow for that - VA panel).

Decent price for a sub-par TV that just happens to have a lot of pixels. Meh.

The sooner they drop LCD/LED in favour of something that at least has a chance of improving on plasma .... the better.

4k blurays aren't out till September. The blurays at the moment are 1080P but mastered from a 4K source.

UHD is pretty much regarded as being totally unnecessary under 50" and on a 40" its nothing less than a marketing gimmick!

IMO better buying a med-high end Full HD TV and waiting for 4k to work its way into the market and become well established, probably with 2-3 years. Most entry level 4k TVs are not well reviewed and combine that with very little true 4k material available to the consumer it doesn't exactly make for a convincing argument.
#33
Not sure if you can use it with a sale item, but the O2 Priority deal is back... £25 off a £250 spend, £100 for £1,000 spend - be keen to know if anyone is able to take advantage as I'm after a LG 55" in the sale....
#34
Be very aware that if this TV, bought from CURRYS or PCWorld or Pixmania goes wrong you will be abandoned by them ..... I had to take them to court to get justice on a faulty TV I had bought from them .... their Customer Service is a nightmare, they treat you very badly - it took a Judge to make them do what the law states they should do!

Do NOT buy from CURRYS!!

4K this cheap already? Surely all 32" and up 1080p TVs will be out of production and replaced by 4K at the same price by the end of the year.

It's true though... TV and what not has only just settled at 1080p... I don't think TV and what not is ready to embrace 4k in reality for at least another 5 years... not in a way the general (not tech headed) consumer will embrace and invest.
#36
At this price it's more than worth it, there is some future proofing..while it won't be as good as a TV you would buy in 2 years, no other TV would either! And it's not as if you are paying thousands and with it being a 4K it would have some decent resale value if you did want to upgrade in a couple of years. There's plenty of 4K content available already, Netflix is updating more and more and I'd bet in 2015 Sky 4K will be up and running (or very close to). If you game you can already game in 4K visuals. Better to have a shiny TV at a decent price than wait that extra 2 years with your old set.
#37
I use a TV as a monitor as well as a regular TV so 4K will be greatly received! thanks
#38
look forward to paying an extra £15 on your media for UHD like sky/BT etc already do now for HD..
