Shame it's just not as good as the LG42LB630V that was being sold by groupon a month or so back for the same price :/

This is the Curry's exclusive version of the LB580V, the only real difference being the inclusion of the magic remote. Richer sounds currently have the 42LB580V in stock for £399 (inc. 5 year warranty) with an offer to get the magic remote for an extra tenner.

JL also have the 42LB580V (inc. 5 year warranty) for £429.

Its a wand type remote for smart tv. You can point and click a keyboard on screen for searches etc a bit like a nintendo wii remote

So is this tv worth getting because I'm in the market for one for this amount. Only for sports and films won't be used for gaming?? Thoughts??
#10
I had the LB580V price matched at JL and use my iphone/iPad as a smart remote. I'd rather get it at JL than Currys.
#11
I currently watch some stuff by streaming using Acestream or Sopcast Is there an app similar to these, for LG tv's where you can do similar, without needing to hook the PC up to the TV? Or even use something like a Flash player?

Difficult question to answer. If you want a TV with built in smart features and WiFi, then this is one of the cheapest on the market. The other positive point is that it's made by LG and is not a rebadged Vestel unit. Whilst this TV has 100Hz processing, the panel is 50Hz, so if you watch a lot of sport with fast moving images, you may notice some blurring or image judder.

Having said that, If £400 is your maximum price point, I think you will be hard pushed to find a better value 42" TV at the moment.

As far as I know, they don't. I was just pointing out that if you buy LG, you know you are not getting a Vestel. At this price point, there are a number of Vestel units floating around from different manufacturers.

What a stunning TV!

Don't buy LG, unless you want a zebra in your living room, do some research on hot uk deals, you will find a post that says exactly that, If I knew then, I wouldn't have bought it.
Unless you buy it from John Lewis, with a 5 years warranty.

50Hz is too slooooooooooooooow for sports etc..... no good! Budget end TV

People have different price points and buy according to what they can afford. What may not be a deal to you, might be to someone else. Personally I wouldn't touch an LCD/LED and have always bought plasmas.

So what brands are considered premium? Who's the market leader in terms of realiabilty and quaility?

Panasonic and Sony probably.

[== smallish gap ==]

Then Samsung and LG. And a few higher end Sharps & Philips.

[== larger gap ==]

Then the rest. With some of "the rest" being worse than others. (some Chinese imports, supermarket specials, etc etc)

Although there is some crossover in terms of quality when you get down to the lower end of what Panasonic & Sony produce vs the top end of what Samsung/LG/Sharp/Philips produce. But broadly speaking, Panasonic and Sony tend to have the best sets at the top of the pile. (With Panasonic having probably the best of the best sets .... excluding OLED for now)

Pioneer would be in with the top two as well. Except they stopped making TV some years ago now. But when they did, they made very good ones.

Yeah, but it's Curry's! They, until recently owned Pixmania ( spit ), who, as we know, I don't care for! mind you. after an incident in s PC World many years back, the whole Dixons-Curry's-PC World will never see me in there stores,ever again!

I'm not vindictive, honest!

Has there been a worse retailer in the UK over the last 10-15 years than Currys?

I boycotted them in 2001 after being treated appallingly by them & have not set foot in one since....

Richer Sounds are now doing this TV for this price....... with the added bonus of their free 5 yr warranty.
#28
I bought this TV at Richer Sounds rather than Currys because of the 5 year guarantee.
I also took up the offer of the Magic remote for £9.99. However it wouldn't register on this model.
Richer Sounds are now saying that it is not compatible despite the LG website saying different.
Anyone know if the Currys TV works with the Magic remote?
