The LD450 has an MStar processor. It suffers from the panel 'lottery'. You will get either an A-MVA or S-IPS panel, but you won't know which until you've bought it.

In terms of picture quality, it's a rival to the Samsung C530. The MStar processor is also used in the Samsung C530, as is the superior Trident processor. The C530 also has a panel lottery. You will get an S-PVA panel or an A-MVA panel.

To avoid the panel &/or processor lottery, & get HD Freeview & other benefits, consider the Samsung LE40C580. Review here http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/samsung-le40c580-le32c580-20100728791.htm . 'Highly Recommended'.

A superb blend of picture quality & outstanding build quality. Glass stand, glass-effect bezel, metal rear casing, transparent bezel edging, red pinstripe at the base of the bezel. It oozes quality.

The Samsung LE40C580 has the Valencia processor, which delivers superior picture quality over MStar or Trident equipped TVs. The panel is an S-PVA. No panel or processor lottery with the LE40C580.

For the best picture quality this side of a Samsung LE40C650 or Panasonic TXP42G20, choose the Samsung LE40C580.

There's a £400 HUKD deal now for the LE40C580 ... http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/samsung-le40c580-40-widescreen-full-hd-1080p-allshare-lcd-tv-with-freeview-hd-39/910721 . IMHO, it's worth the extra £50 just for the peace of mind from avoiding the panel &/or processor lottery, never mind the HD Freeview, superior picture quality, etc. Plus it's an Amazon deal, with their no-hassle returns policy.

I already know this :3 But the S-PVA isn't suitable for everyone ! I've tried it and it sucks if you want to use it as a monitor. You see everything "trail" There is a lot of people who just watch tv and dvds or blu-rays and not everyone notices everything. I agree the c580 is a wonderful tv and is worth the extra for many but others not.

If it wasn't for the stupid slow pixel response i would of kept the tv and wouldn't still be looking. The trailing is noticable in some games too which can be annoying. I noticed it on images and on fleabay listings then it got on my nerves ! A-MVA panels are better for my use which makes it hard to find a c580 that doesn't buzz.

I loved the 46" A-MVA c580 i was using for 3 months but i had to downsize as i was getting too much eye strain. I was let down by the 40" and don't want to try the 37" due to buzzing problems. I am stuck. As i want to stay with samsung but i HATE their own panel.

A-MVA and IPS are better for monitor use and not many would even noticed the "superior" blacks on a S-PVA.It's down to what you use a tv for and for me the 40"c580 is a let down for my personal use. This would be more suitable but i am use to a c580 so i'm holding back for the D series to be in stock on amazon so i can try and get a 40" with A-MVA.. I can't seem to find proof that the blacks are "Superior" to A-MVA ..........

Yep haha i keep replying as he thinks the 40"c580 is just so much better and i keep pointing out its not for everyone ! And that the pixel response sucks and it can trail in games and 100% on pc which is why i returned it ! The panels LG use are better for monitor use ! :3

samsung 580's get my cash too as they are superior to anything close in price

We're becoming an unintentional double act. Perhaps I should mention the shortcomings of the LE40C580 (when hooked-up to a PC) in my posts, thereby saving Gunner4Life the trouble?

Deals on the LD450, LD490 & C530 appear every week on HUKD, so my comments must be tedious for people who've seen them before. I'm trying to provide information to people who haven't seen them previously; those who have should ignore it & keep scrolling to the next post.

You should ! As many people use their tvs at monitors and samsung panels just arn't good enough and cause "double image and word when scrolling" which would get on the as$ of many including myself.

HUKD is about the deals posted ............. not debates but dooper i understand about the re-posting for people who missed. Just include the infor about the above with the trailing duriing games as it can't handle fast movement (pixel wise which causes the eyes to see its old place as its moving to the new place) and i won't need to add my bit X)

Huh ......

PLASMA's that's irrelevant. There is no measured black levels for A-MVA to say they don't match ! I've already tried finding !

A-MVA panels I'm on about in LCD'S Also mentions SPR (_;)

I will, though my guesstimate is that hardly anyone would use a 40" TV as a PC monitor.

I swear you stated on the C580 thread on avforums that you don't play games! Comments from people who do are overwhelmingly enthusiastic about it's performance.

Look again i've stated a few times on different threads the order in which a tv is used by me and its 2nd on the list :3
If i didn't play games i wouldn't have a 360 + ps3 would I !

Again still doesn't have A-MVA black levels. Already asked a while ago their isn't a lot of info around.

http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/image/hdtv/Samsung-LE40C580/black-ghosting.jpg consider putting up with thats on images and text for a few hours aday you will see the problem !

This the reason i hate it (S-PVA) and its more important than slightly better blacks if thats actually the case and is noticable.

Its unbearable if your using for a monitor unlike A-MVA I've had both and i never noticed anything when using my old 46"c580 for 3 months.

I'm telling you A-MVA is better for MONITOR use :)

I'm not disputing it, however, I doubt that more than 1% of purchasers could care less, as the issue is (almost) unique to you.

Use 1 with a switch box and the other for ps3 without a switch box (Still would have 4) :p

I am sure only 2% of owners post on avforums (_;) A very small % It might be that many also think 40" is too big for a monitor so don't bother or have laptops. I've recieved PM from someone who was asking me about it and they would use it for longer a day than i do. If you sit 5-6 m away maybe not so much but i am about 2-2.5m.

It's something that i am sure would annoy many as i am after more than just tv use. Basically not all owners of the tv will post or ask in a forum, Still got no idea X) who you are.

http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/image/hdtv/Samsung-LE40C580/black-ghosting.jpg

Please tell me how seeing that for a few hours aday would be acceptable when a 3 year old peice of poop in to days market never ever produced anythink like that in the year + i used it as a monitor .....

P.S If i wanted a laptop ect i would get one, i don't have room anymore for a desk so i need my tv to work as a monitor for web browsing (all its really used for) and i don't see why i should go out and buy a laptop when a tv should beable to manage something so simple....
