This seems like a superb deal; a 42" 1080p TV for under £400? Here is where someone informs me there is something terribly wrong with this TV...
#2
I'd like to know too, I spotted this on christmas day but i can't find any decent reviews. I'm particularly interested in the sound as I watch a lot of music channels.

Over the last few months this specific model has been around the £400 mark so at the moment it's approximately £20 saver over recent prices. Amazon (also £379 but no cashback) has plenty of user comments, the majority of which are at 4 and 5 stars...

run into store, grab one and try to avoid the hard sell from your friendly local Currys man trying to keep his job by peddling the Whatever Happens service on this, cos apparently these TVs make zero margin.

I bought one last night. These tv's also have the IR hack on them allowing you to play movies through the USB, and not just view pics and play music. Will play avi, mkv, etc.

It's a gorgeous picture on the tv as well. Anyone who has this, sky remote code is 0056.

32" version but should be the same for the 42", this is a very good site for reviews

Thanks!

I bought one of these just before Xmas.

With the usb hack it offers superb value for money!

PLUS its currently 20p cheaper via Amazon!
#9
Only 2 HDMI and One Scart --- I know it's cheap, but it's a bit limited for an otherwise nice TV!!!

I got this tv. Came yesterday. Sorry to drag up such an old thread. But for some this could be useful. Taken from AV Forums: the hack to get movies playing via USB using a oneforall remote...

OK .. Try this ..

TV needs to be turned on ..

1. Press and hold down the MAGIC key on the 8206
(for about 3 seconds) until the rabbit comes
out of the hat (the screen will change to the setup screen)

2. Press the DEV SET key

3. Press and release the TV key to select the device type you like
to setup.

4. Enter 0178 using the number keys. The animated IR Indicator
will blink twice.

5. Now, aim your 8206 at your TV and try the
following keys to test if its working ..

+ or - .. that should be channel up/down ..

6. If your device is responding You can ESC/ESC out of here.

Now we need to program an extra button to open the 'Service Menu'

1. Press and hold down the MAGIC key on the 8206
(for about 3 seconds) until the rabbit comes
out of the hat (the screen will change to the setup screen)

2. Press the KEYMAGIC key

3. Press and release the TV key again.

4. Press the MAGIC (Top Hat!) key once.

5. Enter 00018.

6. Press a key you want to use for this command ..
I used the 'Red' button on the bottom
The IR Indicator will blink twice and the screen will return
to the Setup screen. Press ESC to exit from here.

That's it! .. now press your programmed button and you should see a
pop-up on the TV asking for a password .. mine was 0413.

Now in the service menu go down to 'Tool Option3' ..
from here to 'Divx' and change the 0 to a 1 .. exit out of here
and you should be done.

You probably don't need to use the first part above (replacing the whole remote!)
but I find it handy sometimes.

Hope that helps!

Nope.

Lol can't beleive a TV has to be hacked to allow the playback of avi's and mkv's ...to me these seem like a key selling point for any TV to have so why the makers of this don't have this as standard is beyond me.

Still great deal and if the MKV hack works its even better value for money.
#15
Im assuming its to do with a licensing issue in the UK/Europe with the Divx license. As far as im aware, its the same internals for the Japan/American models, so no point making different firmwares for different regions. Probably easier to just disable the function by default.

Just got mine activated there using a Nokia N73. :)

Looks awesome! :)

Heres the guide for those who dont have an "All in One" remote. If you can get a hold of one of these phones:

Nokia N95 8GB,Nokia N95,Nokia N93i,Nokia N93,Nokia N92,Nokia N91,Nokia N81,Nokia N80,Nokia N77,Nokia N76,Nokia N73,Nokia N71,Nokia E90,Nokia E70,Nokia E65,Nokia E62,Nokia E61i,Nokia E61,Nokia E60,Nokia E50,Nokia 6290,Nokia 6120 Classic,Nokia 6110 Navigator,Nokia 5700,Nokia 5500,Nokia 3250.

1. Download a trial version or buy IRremote by Psiloc from Psiloc website

2.install IRremote on your S60v3 device

3.Download the IN-Start menu profile for LG TV's from here and transfer the file on your phone. The IRremote should automatically launch the profile you just donwloaded for LG.

4. Press 2 and keep it pressed until the password form comes up on your tv (remember to press ctrl if you're using a qwerty phone)

5. Use your TV remote to type 0000 as password. If this password doesnt work, try 0413. This worked for me, but 0000 works for some others.

6. Select Tool Option3

7. Set EMF to 1 (if its not already at 1) and DivX to "1".Don't modify anything else or you will brick your tv.

8. Exit the menu, turn off your tv, locate the usb port on the rear panel and connect an USB drive or hard disk

9. Turn on the tv and enter the menu, Select My Media, and you'll see Movie Player. Click that, and away you go! :)

10. When done, exit the browser and open the quick menu to remove your usb device before disconnecting it or turning off the tv. This has to be done to prevent data loss on your drive.

Guide from here - Ive made a few adjustments so it worked with my tv. :)

Its a great TV, i work at currys and its flying off the shelf so id run as quick as you can to get it before its sold out.

This looks more or less exactly what I'm looking for at a great price - thanks OP!

I bought a 'no-name' 32" 720P/1080i set a few years ago from a computer outlet for about the same price as this and it being Xmas I've seen how much better my parent's LG 37" LCD looks with a decent input source! (I've bought 42 and 52" LG LCD sets for work but powerpoint slides don't really show then off other than 'reliable' under abuse:) )

I also almost exclusively play stuff other than live terrestrial TV either from the PC in AVI (via the 15pin VGA socket atm, which this set also has, and audio via an external ancient AC3 amp). I don't expect a TV to have great audio quality. Or PS3 - TBH I have few Blu Rays and most PS3 games are 720P ported from Xbox by lazy designers.

Being able to play AVI/MKV from attached USB storage is not a big issue as a PC is my main source, but a big bonus if possible - could give the PC a rest.

Not seen any better deals in the sales and I have a local Curry's (rather than buying from Amazon) if any faults.

Looks good to me.

Gotta also say thanks for all those positive and helpful posts on this thread!

Also available at Dixons and Argos for the same price.

Reading the reviews, do mind that this TV doesn't support DLNA or [email protected].

What I found is that LG is using two different panels for this TV. They started out with the IPS, which gives quite decent reviews, especially in this price range. But they now also use cheaper panels from a second manufacturer, which gives a much worse picture. So you could be lucky, or you could get a lemon. I hate it when manufacturers sell two different things under the same label!

Sorry, meant LE4500. Im in two minds about getting this or paying the exta £50 for the LED version. Only difference I can see is that this is 60hz and the LED is 50hz.

Also im not sure if the USB hack works on the LED one, i'd use that a lot.

Finally, the ports on the back of the LED point towards the wall so you wouldn't be able to hang it flush with the wall either which puts me off slightly.

If you're going in then you will be able to compare which you think looks the best. The picture on the LED was terrible inbetween a samsung LED and Panasonic(which was only HD ready and not LED) but then you never know how they've set them up or the input source's.

got this tv and did the hack via my nokia e71, virtuallly plays everthing thrown at it except mkv dts, worth the money but if i had the choice i would go for something with 100hz, tends to blur on hd watching footy. good though if you are not fussed, my 500gb seagate hdd drive works well with it.

You can play more media from USB (rather than just photos) by using the 'hack' "whohasmyname" posted further up the page, if you have a one4all remote...

Bear in mind that if you got a WD tv box then you don't need to do the hack.

Can you please give me your step by step guide to unlocking the usb on the lg42ld450. I have a nokia 73, and have tried what you have suggested, but by pressing the 2 key nothing happens. The ir file is lg33700.ir via link you put up. And Psiloc_irRemote_S603rd.sisx.

Any help would be gladly appreciated mate.

Hey there.

Just hold the number 2 down on your phone. Go right close to the tv on the bottom right as this is where the IR signal receiver is on the television.

The IR port on the phone only supports up to like 15cm away.

So, just go up and hold "2" on your phone while pointing it at the screen :)

Once the password menu comes up, just use the normal LG remote :)

HippyHarry thanks for that, i get to thje 4 digit password bit, but the two passwords on this thread does not work.
